If you constantly find yourself reordering shower curtain liners due to mold, you’ve just been buying the wrong ones. The best shower curtain liners are top-rated for a reason, but you have to read the description carefully. As Lisa Schulner-Fine, co-owner and creative director of home goods brand Quiet Town tells PS, “If a material is water-resistant then it’s also considered to be mold-resistant. Wherever moisture lives, mold can grow.” But “water repellant” isn’t the only spec you should look out for. The heavier the liner, the more body it will have, meaning it won’t fold in on itself and retract (which also leads to mildew buildup).

Quiet Town is famous for its vibrant lineup of Sun Shower Curtains, which I personally use as a liner, but if you’re comfortable with a clear curtain you don’t necessarily need an added layer – especially given the splashy assortment of colors. These are all sustainably made from eco-friendly materials like EVA plastic (it’s PVC- and BPA-free!) and they can be gently cleaned with spray and a wipe. Of course, they aren’t the only high-quality liners on the market – and that’s where we come in. Schulner-Fine told us what to look for, and we curated a shopping list based on your potential needs.

Important to remember? “Every bathroom is different, so if you don’t have great ventilation in your bathroom and the moisture hangs in the air, it may cause mold,” Schulner-Fine says, adding, “It’s great to get in the habit of letting your curtain dry completely by keeping it extended after your shower.” Though the latter tip may be hard to remember, it’s truly life-changing if you appreciate quick-drying bathroom products.

Ahead, scroll through the best shower curtain liners on the market and decide which one is right for your bathroom space.
