Rimowa is adding more stardust to its roster of celebrity endorsements by tapping the Taiwanese idol and Mandopop singer Jay Chou as its latest global ambassador.
According to Rimowa’s chief executive officer Hugues Bonnet-Masimbert, Jay Chou’s multiple creative acts throughout his career, first as a musician, then as an actor and director, mirror Rimowa’s belief in “the transformative power of travel and the commitment to constantly honing one’s craft while fearlessly pursuing innovation and reinvention.”
“Jay Chou not only embodies all these values but is someone who we admire for his global impact as an artist,” he added.
The King of Mandopop’s partnership with Rimowa is a natural progression for both parties. Chou first worked with Rimowa during the brand’s itenerant exhibition Seit 1898, when he showcased a Rimowa luggage presumably used during his “The Invincible” world tour.
“As I travel around the world, my Rimowa suitcases have been trusted companions that I share precious memories with,” Chou said.
“They’ve accompanied me not only in professional settings but during other travels too, as I delved into new realms to seek out inspiration,” added Chou, describing his new role as of “great joy.”
The prolific singer and songwriter, who has 15 studio albums under his belt, made his directorial debut in “Secret,” a 2007 romance film.
Chou is perhaps best known to the Western audience for his roles in Hollywood titles including “The Green Hornet” and “Now You See Me 2.”
In 2022, Chou stirred online frenzy on Chinese social media by releasing a music video shot at La Samaritaine, the landmark department store owned by LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton. Chou is currently filling stadiums around the world for Carnival, his eighth world tour.
Chou’s appointment marks a milestone for the German luggage-maker in the Chinese market, as Chou is to become Rimowa’s first global ambassador from the country.
Chou is set to appear in Rimowa’s latest campaign editorial, which will be released shortly.
Boosting more than 8.8 million followers on Instagram, Chou joins Blackpink member Rosé, champion Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton and French soccer player Kylian Mbappé as the newest face of the brand.
