Fantasia Barrino went for classic elegance with a twist at the 2024 NAACP Image Awards on Saturday in Los Angeles.
The star of “The Color Purple” wore a white halter dress from Mônot for the event at the Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall. The custom creation featured a large black sequin bow on the back and a mermaid bottom. She coordinated with a small Judith Leiber studded evening bag, sequined opera gloves and Le Silla heels. The look was styled by Daniel Hawkins.
Barrino won the NAACP Image Awards’ Best Actress trophy for her role in “The Color Purple.”
“I was afraid to play Celie, but I’m glad I did,” she said onstage. “I kept saying, if I don’t win an award, the awards that I’ll win is the people who will watch ‘Color Purple’ and the women who will relate to her and feel like Oscars when they walk out.”
Hairstylist Derickus Crawford gave Barrino’s typically short her a slight tussled look.
Barrino’s “Color Purple” co-stars Taraji P.Henson and Danielle Brooks also attended the event. Henson went 3D in her yellow Del Core dress.
The 2024 NAACP Image Awards honor the accomplishments of Black creatives in film, television and music. Queen Latifah hosted the ceremony and winners were announced prior to the show’s air date. This year’s honorees include Usher, H.E.R., Megan Thee Stallion, June Ambrose and Ciara.
