For resort 2025, Dean and Dan Caten followed up on the entertaining concept they showed last January for fall 2024, when the duo enlisted identical twins to parade day and nighttime looks on the runway. Their concise lineup was divided into three segments, which amplified its sense of straightforwardness. The designers’ eclectic mix-and-match and signature layering were here tamed in favor of instant approachability.
Cue the opening part that referenced the duo’s Canadian roots and life outdoors with nods to camping and mountain hiking. Lumberjack checks, belted denim jackets as well as stonewashed jeans and low-rise chinos with a lived-in feel made for easy separates and were rounded out by faded hoodies and accessories developed with Invicta as part of the second collaboration between the brands.
The central segment pointed to urban life via a handful of sleek looks oozing work vibes à la Dsquared2, hence imbued with a sassy and confident attitude. Tailoring came with sharp lines and elongated proportions, while the Catens’ denim expertise was exalted with oversize fits, washes and camouflage effects that channeled a sense of rawness.
A more polished aesthetic marked the closing nighttime offering, which played with black, white and gold tones. The restricted color palette and essential silhouettes, which ranged from sheer pussy-bow shirts and HotPants with beaded trimming to a wool tuxedo and a strapless gown with plunging side slit, highlighted the duo’s ability with dressier looks.
Unfortunately, even the luxe feeling of this segment couldn’t make up for the lack of zing and unpredictability overall.
