Queen Letizia of Spain took inspiration from the 2024 Olympics host city and fashioned a stylish frock for Spain’s reception at the Spanish Embassy in Paris on Thursday. The reception was held prior to the opening ceremonies for the 2024 Olympics on Friday.

For the occasion, Queen Letizia turned to the Christian Dior couture spring 2024 collection for her look. The Spanish royal fashioned a sleeveless midi dress with intricate embroidery and beading, creating the stunning fleur-de-lis on the bodice of the dress. The fleur-de-lis has a long history in France as a symbol of royalty.

The flared, full skirt continued the ornate embroidered motif, with strings of elaborate embellishments sewn with precision. The final look married two distinct elements of Queen Letizia’s style seamlessly — her proclivity for classic silhouettes and appreciation for modern designs and contemporary touches.

Queen Letizia’s Christian Dior couture dress made its runway debut during Paris Couture Week last January. Dior creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri channeled midcentury looks for the collection, which featured a bevy of designs with ornate details like embroidery, clean lines and more.

Chiuri also paid homage to the past with the use of moiré material, a major influence on the creative director. Chiuri looked back to Dior’s founder for inspiration. “If we want to understand fashion, you have to understand the time when the brand was born,” Chiuri said at the time.
