MILAN — British designer Andrew Hays’ Cabbonet, which makes kitchens, closets and furniture, is the latest European import to enrich Los Angeles‘ burgeoning design scene.
The company told WWD that Cabbonet’s showroom and store opened its doors Wednesday at the Pacific Design Center, a space envisaged to welcome visitors to experience the brand’s renowned craftsmanship firsthand.
The Cabbonet L.A. location was opened in partnership with Los Angeles-based kitchen design legend, Steven Cooper, the principal designer and owner at Cooper Pacific Kitchens. Together, Hays and Cooper “plan to bring Cabbonet’s highly original aesthetic to the city, embracing an eclectic approach to kitchen furniture that deconstructs the concept of the fitted kitchen, making each component of the space both beautiful and purpose-led [and] collaboratively pushing the boundaries of luxury design for the home,” Cabbonet said.
Hays is also the cofounder of Arteim, an esteemed London design studio known for its multidisciplinary approach that spans architecture, opera, film, furniture and product innovation. Founded in 2019, Cabbonet is named after a 13th-century Old English term meaning “a chest for safekeeping,” and was launched in response to the high demand Arteim received from around the world, particularly in the U.S., which inspired its expansion into new markets such as New York, Colorado and, most recently, Southern California. Hays also held the position of creative director at Germany’s kitchen cabinets company Poggenpohl before cofounding Lanserring, another design-led company that creates kitchens, furniture and lifestyle products.
