After the Miss Universe 2024 competition came to a close last night, the first runner-up Miss Nigeria Chidimma Adetshina shared a heartfelt message of gratitude and unity. Adetshina, who placed second after Miss Denmark Victoria Kjaer Theilvig and ahead of Miss Mexico Maria Fernanda Beltran, reflected on her experience in a note posted to Instagram.

“History has been made for Nigeria,” Adetshina wrote alongside a crown emoji. “To Nigeria: Thank you is not enough for all the support you’ve shown. You picked me up when I was at my lowest. I’ve never opened up much but I was ready to give up on my life and you became my strength. On days I never wanted to fight you gave me the strength to fight. I’m so grateful for each and everyone for walking this journey with me.”

“This journey has taught me the power of unity,” Adetshina added. “I want us to live in a society where we can all accept and celebrate one another.”

She concluded by saying, “This is not the end but the beginning of my journey.”
