Updated October 7th, 2023: This article on the best electric razors for women was updated with additional editor product testing, new shaver releases for 2023, and tips on selecting the right electric razor for you.
Hair removal can be the bane of any woman’s beauty routine — the wrong tool risks stubble, irritation, or uneven regrowth. Disposable manual razors can only take you so far, and that’s where the best women’s electric razors come into handy, especially with shaving your legs.
The best electric shavers are revved up with rechargeable lithium-ion batteries, and they incorporate perforated foil blades that are smooth on the outside and sharp on the inside. By creating a dual-blade effect, these razors expose individual hairs so you can remove it quickly and deeply from the root. This can help delay hair regrowth and prolong the time in between your shaves.
According to New York City dermatologist Dr. Hadley King, there are many additional benefits to using a women’s electric razor — including less of a risk of pesky ingrown hairs. “Ingrown hairs (skin-colored or red bumps that contain a trapped hair growing down into the skin) are more likely to occur when hair is curly, and/or when skin covers the area where hair is growing,” Dr. King explains. “Therefore ingrown hairs can be decreased by not shaving closely — for example, use an electric razor rather than a blade so that the hair, even at its shortest, is above the skin surface.”
As far as irritation goes, board-certified Miami dermatologist of Riverchase Dermatology, Dr. Stacy Chimento recommends those with particularly sensitive skin also reach for electric razors as they glide over the skin rather than giving you a super close shave. “This means less irritation and no chance of cuts, as opposed to blades that scrape and damage your face or skin,” Dr. Chimento explains. “To be clear, this does not mean that electric razors have no irritation. However, they are generally easier on sensitive skin.”
Thanks to technological innovations, women’s electric razors have come a long way, and it’s easier than ever before to find suitable shavers for all your needs. To help you navigate the endless options on the market, our team of beauty shopping experts put dozens of women’s electric razors to the test from top shaving brands like Braun and Philips, assessing ease of use, battery life, and overall shaving results, as well as noting whether or not the blades caused irritation for sensitive skin. The results: our curate guide to the best women’s shavers for all your needs and budget.

Razors Testing Verdict: Top 3 Electric Shavers for Women of 2023
Women’s electric razors come in many forms; there are shavers designed for use on one area of the body, and others with versatility for facial hair, leg hair, pubic hair, and more. On top of the variation within the category, the best electric razor for you will depend on your hair thickness and texture, as well as your desired result. With these factors in mind, we selected these three electric razors for women as our favorites rather a singular best overall option. Let us introduce you to our hair removal heroes.
- Philips Bikini Trimmer and Precision Trimmer 2000: This new electric shaving kit from Philips wooed our testers with its two-piece set equipped with thoughtful, useful attachments. Not only is it the best bikini trimmer we tried, but it also comes with a separate precision trimmer that functions as a dermaplaning tool and eyebrow groomer. While it’s shaver heads aren’t large enough to tackle legs, this compact electric shaver set expertly is ideal for shaving all other areas of the face and body.
- Pritech Lady Shaver: For those interested in an electric razor for legs, Pritech’s Lady Shaver is an exceptional option for the cleanest of clean shaves. Our testers were impressed by how smoothly and evenly the tool glides through coarse hairs. And the medium-sized razor head is just the right size for use on pubic hair, too.
- Meridian The Trimmer Original: An outstanding choice for sensitive skin, Meridian’s shaver features ceramic blades that cause zero irritation (and the blades don’t risk rust with repetitive use — even in the shower). It’s our tested pick for the best women’s electric razor for those with long hair that otherwise require multiple passes with a manual razor, and it’s safe for use anywhere on the body.

Leave it to Philips to offer one of the most versatile, intuitive-to-use trimmers on the market. The Bikini Trimmer and Precision Trimmer 2000 wowed our testers with its compact build, luxury feel, and easy-to-navigate trimming heads. This shaving set is for those with an eye for fine detail. The bikini trimmer comes with attachments for a clean shave or neat grooming, while the precision trimmer allows you to detail your eyebrows, carefully dermaplane facial fuzz, and smooth away rogue coarse hairs. Because the tools are battery-operated and do their work quickly, you can expect months of usage (up to one year, depending on frequency of use) without replacing the batteries.
Editor testing and review notes: “This two-piece set has replaced a multitude of grooming tools in my beauty routine — no more digging around for razors, dermaplaning tools, tweezers, and trimmers. But beyond streamlining my hair removal setup, this Philips set has made shaving any part of my body a less teeth-clenching process. The facial hair precision trimmer is genius for finessing my brows and removing all-over fuzz, and the bikini trimmer is easy to grip and navigate steadily for a smooth, nick-free shave. Each of the pieces fit neatly in the included carrying pouch that’s no bigger than a makeup brush roll — it limits bathroom counter clutter and easily slips into a weekender bag.”

- Warranty: Not available via Amazon
- What’s included: Shaver, spare blade, trimming guide comb, USB charging cable, charging stand, and cleaning brush

Despite its under-$20 price point, Pritech’s Lady Shaver is one of the best budget electric razors that comes with the bells and whistles you’d expect from a $70 women’s razors. Its detachable shaver head includes both straight and curved blades as well as floating foil — a trio that can tame long hairs and the shortest stubble with a quick pass. The souped-up motor makes this one of the more powerful shavers on our list, so while those with coarse hair will appreciate that this tool is effective and fast to use, sensitive skin types may want to try a gentler alternative (such as the Krovena shaver, below). We’re not the only ones impressed with this electric razor’s luxury feel — the device has over 1,500 five-star reviews on Amazon.
Editor testing and review notes: “This electric shaver gets an A+ for aesthetics. The clean white design and metallic detailing feel pleasantly minimal compared to other tech-y razors I tested, and the included storage stand is stylish and easy to grab from. The razor and trim system combines both tools in one, which results in a clean shave in one to two passes. It gently glides on both wet and dry skin, does not cause any irritation or bumps, and gets the job done quickly. It’s charged and ready to go fresh out of the box with a lithium battery already installed, and comes with a second blade to swap after long term use. Hair removal can feel like such a chore, especially for someone like me who has thick leg hair that grows back after a few hours, but this Lady Shaver streamlines the process for last minute shaving or touch ups on the go.”

Meridian is a mainstay in the electric razor space, offering just a few hero tools that are suitable for all genders and all areas of the body. The Trimmer Original may be the brand’s most basic offering, but it’s not short on special features. Let’s start with the ceramic blade — this material is safe for sensitive skin, unlikely to rust, and delivers good glide as it trims the coarsest of hairs. The Trimmer also comes with two guide combs (one 3 to 6 millimeters and another 9 to 12 millimeters) for customizable shaping wherever you’d like to groom. The waterproof design has a weighty feel and a matte finish for easy gripping and control if you’re using the device in the shower.
Editor testing and review notes: “If you’re looking for a compact, hassle-free, and sensitive skin-friendly trimmer, this cordless, colorful option checks all the boxes. It came in mint condition and was accompanied by two adjustable guide combs, a cleaning brush, and a USB charger. It got the job done while being gentle on my skin and gliding over it effortlessly. Another great feature is that once fully charged, this cordless trimmer can give you 90 minutes of uninterrupted shaving — though you’ll probably never need it that long because the device is very powerful, getting the job done in a flash. While it worked better on longer hair than shorter hair, I would recommend this device to anyone needing a hair-removing tool for trimming or upkeep rather than a full-on shave.”

The Finishing Touch Flawless Legs hair remover looks like something out of a sci-fi movie, but we promise it’s not a robot; it’s an electric razor specifically designed to eliminate any unwanted hair growth along the legs. Plated with 18-karat white gold for a sophisticated aesthetic, nearly 9,000 shoppers rave about this electric razor for women’s legs, noting that the hair removal device works well and looks nice in your bathroom. The electric shaver has an ergonomic design for easy control, reducing the likelihood of accidental nicks or scrapes, and it operates without soap or water. Its bright LED lights ensure you’ll never miss a spot, while its rechargeable lithium-ion battery makes shaving possible anywhere, anytime.
Editor testing and review notes: “I’m a tried-and-true waxer, but my coarse hair still grows back fast and this cute, handheld shaver was perfect for the in-between moments where there were just a few errant hairs, but not enough to go all-in on waxing. I also used it on my legs and I was honestly surprised at how well it moved over my ankles and knees — I always manage to nick myself — but I didn’t with this razor, even after doing two passes. I’d recommend cleaning it out after each use, or else the hairs get stuck and you’ll need to do more passes, but it’s really easy to take apart and brush out the hair.”

Impressively lightweight, yet effective, Krovena’s Electric Shaver is an excellent choice for those new to the electric razor category. Where some trimmers have multiple settings and attachments, this razor has just one three-blade shaver head and a singular on and off button. On top of the simple razor design, Krovena’s shaver includes a built-in LED light that illuminates the area you’re shaving, ensuring you don’t accidentally miss a spot or slice your skin. Because of the streamlined design and safety features, our testers rate it as one of the best electric shavers for teenage girls or tweens.
Editor testing and review notes: “Krovena’s electric razor is my favorite design I’ve tried — it’s convinced me to stop using a disposable razor. It has a powerful motor that works on dry or wet skin. The first time I experimented with it, I noticed how close of a shave it gave without leaving any razor bumps or skin irritation — instantly selling me on the product. The stand it comes with is also amazing because I never have to wonder where my charging cord is; I can just stick the razor on the stand and forget about it. Plus, it’s easy to clean, has a great battery life, and comes with a razor, a trimming guide comb (35mm), a USB cable, a charging stand, and a cleaning brush. My favorite part has been the little LED bulb that shines a spotlight on the area I’m shaving. I had never realized how little I saw while shaving in the shower before, so this function gives me full visibility, letting me see what I have left to shave.”

Also, there are just enough features to make it feel luxurious, but not so many that you’re intimidated or you know you’ll never use. Braun Silk-épil 9 Flex 9-300 Epilator
Best Epilator for Women
- For wet/dry skin: Both
- Power source: USB charging stand for large epilator; battery powered facial tool
- Battery life: 50 minutes
- Warranty: Not available via Amazon or Walmart
- What’s included: Body epilator, facial epilator, shaver head, trimmer cap, body massage pad, face massaging pad, cleansing brush attachment, cleaning brush, charging cord, and travel case
- Pros
- Includes exfoliating attachments for skin prep and maintenance between hair removal
- Easy to operate out of the box
- Includes two tools for use on face and body
- Delays regrowth and delivers a super smooth result
- Cons
- Moderately painful during first few uses
- Requires growing hair 3 mm long before use
- Amazon Top-Quality Store Badge on Google: 4.5/5 stars
Sick of post-shave stubble? It’s time to invest in an epilator. Where electric razors slice off hairs at the surface level of your skin, epilators feature dozens of rotating disks that work like tweezers to remove individual hairs from the root. Like waxing, this mechanism results in a buttery smooth result with slower regrowth, and the promise of fewer (and finer!) hairs with consistent use. Braun’s Silk-épil is the only epilator available with a flexible head that adjusts to the contours of your body, meaning you’ll need fewer passes to remove unwanted hairs. This women’s shaving kit also includes a facial epilator tool that’s ideal for banishing rogue chin hairs or upper lip fuzz. It’s so much more than an epilator, by the way. With the included attachments, the body tool transforms into a body exfoliator and standard electric razor, and the face tool can function as a facial cleansing brush and face massager.
Editor testing and review notes: “As a first-time epilator user with a low pain tolerance, I approached this tool with fear in my eyes. And I’ll be honest: The first time I tried this tool on my legs, I wasn’t exactly comfortable. The sensation is similar to the repetitive plucking you feel when you’re getting your eyebrows threaded (not terrible, but not definitely not as painless as shaving). But here’s the thing — my legs have never been smoother. I typically require twice-weekly shaves to maintain a silky feel, but with this epilator, I was able to last a full three weeks without stubble. My second go-round with the tool was far less painful than the first, and I’ve noticed my hairs feel way softer and less prickly than before. Exfoliation is a key step before using an epilator, and I love that this device comes with everything I need for safe, successful hair removal.”

Not only does this beautiful women’s electric shaver from Panasonic look great on bathroom shelves, but it also delivers that silky-smooth finish you covet without leaving any nicks or scratches behind. Made with ultra-thin, hypoallergenic outer foils, the Panasonic Close Curves Electric Shaver for Women has been engineered with four ultra-sharp floating blades designed to guarantee a precise shave. Its special features include a built-in pop-up trimmer (because small details matter), and a bikini comb attachment to help groom and shape your more sensitive areas. It’s also worth noting the razor is suitable for either dry or wet shaves, comes cordless (though a full charge only yields 35 minutes of use), and your purchase includes a travel cap, holder, and pouch, making it one of the more travel-friendly options on this list.
Editor testing and review notes: “I immediately loved this zen-looking mint colored razor and I’m happy to share that the razor itself was pretty great, too,” reports our tester. “The first pass didn’t offer a terribly close shave, but when I went back over it, I noticed that the foils were somewhat springy, so I gently pressed down on the second pass, which removed all of my stubble. Once you find your shaving groove and the amount of pressure you’re comfortable applying to your skin, this electric shaver will easily do the rest.”

If you’re new to dermaplaning — using a blade to remove fine peach fuzz and dead skin on your face — Dermaflash’s Luxe+ Advanced Sonic Dermaplaning and Peach Fuzz Removal kit contains everything you need to try it home safely. The brand debuted this new-and-improved dermaplane device last fall, and it’s complete with souped up sonic technology, sharper (but still safe!) razor edges, and multiple intensity settings. The included skin-prepping gel cleanser contains ingredients that remove excess oil from the surface of your skin, allowing a cleaner shave. Once you’re done dermaplaning, follow with a cold rinse and plenty of moisturizer — your skin will sop up all those ingredients with dead cells out of the way.
Editor testing and review notes: “I dermaplane regularly, so I’ve tried many different tools and devices. Since trying out this tool, it’s become my go-to. The device lightly vibrates as you glide it across your skin — I’m convinced that light wiggling of the blades helps de-fuzz skin better than manual options. The silicone material makes it easy to grip while I maneuver it around different planes and contours of my face and jawline. Fuzzier areas required two passes to fully remove hair.”

Brori Electric Razor for Women
- For wet/dry skin: Both
- Weight: 5.44 ounces
- Power source: USB rechargeable via proprietary charging stand
- Battery life: 60 minutes run time
- Warranty: Yes
- What’s included: One electric razor, charging stand, USB cable, and cleaning brush
- Pros
- Refreshingly simple design
- Has 3 hypoallergenic, stainless steel blades that produced no irritation
- Razor head is bendy but not overly flexible, so it will get into contours and small areas while still feeling structured and the right amount of stiff
- LED light illuminates the body area you’re shaving so you can easily see if you need a second pass or missed a spot
- 60 minutes of shaving is a lot — I used the razor four or five times without needing to recharge
- Cons
- May slip out of charging stand when wet
- Amazon Top-Quality Store Badge on Google: 4.5/5 stars
Boasting a sleek design and cute blue hue, the Brori Electric Razor for Women is stocked with three high-speed, incredibly sharp razor blade made with hypoallergenic, 3D floating foil stainless steel that allows it to effortlessly and precisely shave your arms, underarms, legs, and bikini line. This women’s electric razor workhorse is suitable for both wet and dry usage, and also has an LED light feature that illuminates your skin as it shaves to ensure you’ve gotten every hair. It sounds impressive because it is, especially when you consider Brori’s Electric Razor’s low-noise output (anyone who loathes that constant humming sound will love this pick). What’s more, this electric razor is cordless and charges via USB (plug it directly into the wall or sit it on its station). One full charge yields a whopping 60 minutes of shave time (a significant amount compared to other models), so it’s an especially great option for frequent travelers.
Editor testing and review notes: “My main takeaway for this razor is that it is a solid option for those who can’t be bothered with all the bells and whistles that you probably won’t use anyway. However, it did have one LED light underneath so I could see what I was doing and whether I needed to do a second pass or not, but otherwise, this is a simple, no frills razor that will require a few passes depending on the length of your hair. On shorter stubble, I needed to do three to four passes to eliminate the hair completely, but the razor caught the longer hairs quite well for trimming. I have sensitive skin and was surprised that even with multiple passes on my legs, there wasn’t any irritation.”

Remington Smooth & Silky Body & Bikini Kit
- For wet/dry skin: Both
- Weight: .5 pounds
- Power source: AA battery
- Battery life: Variable
- Warranty: 60 day money back guarantee
- What’s included: Four attachment heads, storage pouch, and one AA battery
- Pros
- Rotating exfoliator helps prevent ingrown hairs, but also just reveals ultra smooth skin wherever you want to use it
- Foil shaver is hypoallergenic and angled to reach easy-to-miss spots without the risk of knicks or irritation
- Small size is travel-friendly
- Kit is all encompassing to achieve goal of majorly touchable skin
- Cons
- Foil shaver head is small and may need a few passes to fully eliminate hair
- Amazon Top-Quality Store Badge on Google: 4.5/5 stars
A hair trimmer and exfoliator all-in-one, the Remington Smooth & Silky Body & Bikini Kit features three attachment heads that create your silkiest, smoothest skin ever. Designed for speedy touch-ups around the body and bikini line, the device comes with a few different accessories to make a quick process even quicker in a time crunch. For example, the multi-faceted exfoliator head buffs away dead skin cells and preps the skin for shaving, while the hypoallergenic foil shaver head offers a closer trim. Its body trimmer glides over skin for swift, but accurate touch-ups while an adjustable length guide allows you to completely customize the experience. The women’s electric razor is suitable for in and out of the shower treatments and is powered by a single AA battery.
Editor testing and review notes:“This kit is one of the most impressive shavers I tested. Not only could I use it in the shower, but it also came with a suite of attachments — a trimmer, foil shaver, rotating exfoliator head and length guide comb — that were useful for my entire body. I used the exfoliator head on my bikini area to prevent ingrown hairs (a constant nemesis), and followed up with the trimmer then the shaver for one of the closest, smoothest shaves I’ve ever had. In fact, I liked the exfoliator head so much that I even use it when I’m not going to shave, but just to get really silky skin on my arms and legs — it’s like an exfoliating body brush, but way more efficient.”
What to Consider When Choosing Women’s Electric Razors
- Electric razor head features: For legs, look for a razor that has a medium to large sized razor head, which will cover as much real estate as possible with a single swipe. Small, focused razor heads work best on tricky-to-navigate areas like bikini lines. Another factor to consider is whether you can shave in multiple directions with ease. Hair grows in multiple directions, particularly on our legs, so having a razor that can tackle hair from all angles is key for a smooth shave.
- Dry or wet shave: The best electric razors for women do both. Plus, investing in a dual-action razor will ultimately benefit your skin as using a high-quality women’s shaving cream or gel reduces the risk of skin irritation. “Some shavers are only suitable for dry shaving, which isn’t a good choice for skin that’s easily irritated,” Dr. King says. “Keep in mind, however, that you will have to keep your shaver fully charged as wet/dry shavers can’t be operated while plugged in. They also require thorough cleaning.”
- Cost: One of the perks of using manual razors is that they’re less expensive than women’s electric razors. But you get what you pay for — inexpensive manual razors are often lower quality, which can result in a higher likelihood of nicks, cuts, or razor burn. If you’re switching over to an electric razor for women, you’re better off making the investment on a premium device. “You want the razor to last as long as possible, since one of the main benefits of an electric razor is not having to purchase disposable components,” celebrity aesthetician Joshua Ross of SkinLab tells WWD. “Investing in one that delivers results and is long-lasting will be worth the extra money.”
- Battery life: “The longer the battery life, the better,” says Dr. Chimento. Battery life is a common qualm with electric razors — ones that die on the job leave you stranded with stubble. We personally vetted each electric razor on this list, noting the battery duration during multiple shaves. Allow rechargeable options to fully charge before using them for the best experience.
The Different Types of Women’s Electric Razors
There are two main types of electric shavers: The first is foil shavers, which Dr. Chimento explains are “made with a thin curved metal foil that covers cutting blades.” The second is a rotary shaver which “uses circular blades and has three round heads that work to conform to your skin.” So which is the best electric shaver for women? Dr. Chimento tells WWD it really comes down to personal preference. Choose an option that feels comfortable for you and caters to your hair type. Foil razors are best for fine hair and generally lend a close shave, while rotary shavers are your best bet for coarse, curly hair.
You can also choose between plug-in or cordless razors. “Cordless razors provide convenience and freedom, however, you may have to charge them frequently,” Dr. Chimento explains. “A plug-in razor will provide you with maximum power at all times, but you may not like having to spin up the cord and set it away.” Bottom line: This is another small detail that could make a big impact on your overall shaving experience.
How to Use a Women’s Electric Shaver, According to an Expert
It’s important to review your electric shaver’s manual, because the process is a bit different than shaving your legs with a disposable razor. To achieve the best results and truly reduce irritation while using an electric shaver, follow these simple three steps before every shave.
- Prep your skin: This step is essential. In fact, Dr. King recommends reserving a solid 10 minutes (at least) of prep time prior to shaving in order to properly soften the outer layer of skin. If you’re using a dry electric shaver, make sure to moisten your skin with warm water so that your hair is easier to shave. For those enlisting the help of a wet electric razor, cover your legs in shaving cream to prevent friction between the razor and your skin.
- Shave skin carefully: When it comes time to remove hair, board-certified dermatologist Dr. Jessie Cheung recommends applying “gentle pressure with the razor while holding your skin taut.” For a closer shave, glide the razor against the grain, Cheung continues, adding that if you have a foil shaver it’s best to move in short, back and forth strokes. If you have a rotary head, she says, “move in slow circles.”
- Soothe your skin: Post-shave, make sure to follow up with a soothing and hydrating body lotion to calm your skin and lock in moisture. It’s also important to abide by some best practices beyond shaving days. This includes regularly moisturizing the skin and regular exfoliation.
How to Clean Your Women’s Electric Razor
Cleaning your electric shaver is crucial for keeping your gadget functioning like new. This can be done by simply rinsing it with warm, soapy water (keeping your fingers away from the blade as much as possible). Any remaining residue can be wiped clean with rubbing alcohol, Dr. King says. Many of the electric shavers on our list come with cleaning brushes, which are best used to dust off any residual hairs when the blades are dry.
With good care, blades of electric razors can last for months. However, Dr. Chimento tells WWD it’s hard to give an exact timeframe for when to replace your electric razor because it ultimately depends on how thick your hair is and how often you use your razor. “You should replace electric cutters and razor heads about once every 12 months,” Dr. Chimento estimates. “Make sure to look over your foil and blades to make sure there is not any noticeable wear to avoid more significant issues.” If you notice dullness or any signs of rust, it’s best to swap it out.
How We Selected, Tested and Reviewed the Best Electric Razors for Women
Our search for the best electric shavers for women began with in-depth expert interviews with dermatologists and aestheticians to understand what features to look for in women’s razors for grooming different areas of the body. Next, we researched new innovation in the electric razor market, combed through thousands of electric shaver reviews, and sought out razors with versatile functionality and special safety features. After months of research and testing, we crafted this list of the top electric razors, shavers, epilators, and trimmers worth investing in.
Our list of the best electric razor includes a range of standouts for different skin types, hair textures, and grooming areas. Here are our testing reviews of some additional electric razors for women:
- RenFox 2-in-1 Electric Shaver for Women: This budget-friendly shaver had many positive reviews, however our testers noticed a few flaws that eliminated it from our list. It’s nearly impossible to get a close shave with this tool, and the multiple passes it requires left our tester’s skin irritated and dry.
- Philips BikiniPerfect Advanced Bikini Trimmer Kit: Although comfortable in the hand and easy to operate, this bikini trimmer resulted in a patchy shave, despite trying different shaving techniques. Our testers were far more impressed by the brand’s newer offering, the Philips Bikini Trimmer and Precision Trimmer 2000, which made our list.
- Braun Epilator Silk-épil 9 Hair Removal for Women: Our testers found this epilator difficult to operate, as the device has multiple settings that are difficult to understand without carefully studying the product’s manual. Braun’s newer epilator elbowed this option out, as the upgraded version has a more ergonomic design and practical attachments for prepping skin before use.
- Philips Lady Shaver: On its own, this tool removes hair gently, which is ideal for sensitive skin. However, it took about three passes to catch thicker hairs, which took more time and effort than similar options that made our list.
- Fur Bikini Trimmer: Our testers were impressed by this trimmer’s elevated design and range of trimming and shaving attachments. However the trimmer resulted in some pinching and pulling that could results in discomfort for those with sensitive skin.
- Schick Hydro Silk Perfect Finish Trimmer: The versatility of this trimmer was promising, however our testers noted that it worked better on facial hair than it did on pubic hair. The small head size also limits the usage of this tool to those two areas, where others on our list are sizable enough to work on legs, too.
How We Tested & Reviewed the Best Electric Razors for Women
Our testers evaluated a total of 25 women’s electric shavers, including a mix of razors, trimmers, and epilators. Each razor and hair removal device was tested at least twice during the course a three month long period (though some of these options are regularly used by our editors). Testers used these electric shavers — where directions allowed — on wet and dry skin, as well as on several different body areas, from legs to areas with pubic hair. Among other factors, we inspected electric razors for women for key qualities, such as their ease of use, safety features, blade materials, and how our skin felt after using the shavers.
Our panel of testers included a mix of women with coarse and fine hair, and sensitive and resilient skin. Below are the criteria we considered while operating the devices:
- Ease of use: Many electric shavers have multiple intensity settings and attachments, but these special features are only helpful if they’re intuitive to navigate. Our testers paid close attention to how long it took to feel comfortable with the device out of the box, assessing the time it takes to power on the device, how simple it is to toggle between included attachments, and if the tool was straightforward to use on different areas of the body.
- Safety features: Electric razors include sharp blades that rotate, oscillate, or spin during use, which can risk cuts, nicks, and irritation without appropriate safety features. We paid close attention to included guards and trimmer comb attachments, as well as storage caps for these tools when not in use. Our testers also evaluated these trimmers on tricky-to-shave knees and ankles to make sure the options on our list glide seamlessly over these areas. Any electric shavers that resulted in nicks or irritation after use were cut from our list.
- Versatility: Some electric shavers are designed for a singular area of the body, but still, our testers noted if these options were friendly for use on wet or dry skin. Others include attachments that retrofit the device for use from head to toe, however the versatility of these devices depends on their ability to remove hair effectively and safely in all of the suggested areas of use. We tested each electric razor on the intended areas of use, and any that fell short in certain areas were removed from our list.
- Shave result: Our testers evaluated each razor based on the results the tool delivered, including well-manicured hair or a silky smooth shave. For trimming, we noted if the hair appeared even, and for clean shaves, we assessed if the tools left any remaining patches or stubble.
