As of January 1, 2025, New York State officially banned single-use toiletry bottles under 12 ounces in hotels with more than 50 rooms. By 2026, all hotels — no matter the capacity — will be affected in the state. For fans of staying in trendy NYC hotels, typically stocked with teensy Le Labo shampoos and shower gels in bestselling scents like Noir 29 or Matcha 26, this signals an end to the era of swiping said bottles and continuing to use them at home. There’s a silver lining, however: the opportunity to travel with your own TSA-friendly bottles in a way that feels more put-together than simply snagging travel-sized ones at your local CVS.
The Cadence Capsule System provides a way to do just that, whilst becoming the chicest traveler of your friend group. This women-owned brand is an editor favorite here at WWD: featuring minimalist, modular capsules that are durable enough to be lifeproof and engineered masterfully enough to be completely leakproof.

Pre-made sets include storage solutions for your on-the-go essentials, labeled according to the product they’re intended to hold. You can go the custom route, too, and build a Cadence System by hand-selecting labels ranging from shampoo, leave-in conditioner, and moisturizer to makeup remover, face serum, and sunscreen (denoted by a cutesy little sun icon). Not seeing a label for something you can’t travel without, like liquid foundation? Creating one from scratch only costs $4. Being made of food-safe material, you can rest assured your pills and supplements will also be protected within these pods. Sizing options include small (0.56 ounces), medium (1.32 ounces), and large (2.75 ounces).
A huge perk of Cadence’s offerings is that the capsules are magnetic, meaning they can bond together and ensure things don’t go flying all over the place in your carry-on (we’ve been there too, trust us). Cadence’s patented designs are also dishwasher-safe but can just as easily be washed by hand, versus comparative squeeze bottles which are harder to reach into.
Our editors can attest to the fact that the Cadence Capsule System also scores high when it comes to aesthetics. Each capsule’s body is sleek, high-quality, and pleasant to the touch. The colorway options — besides being seemingly endless with shades like the soft green Eucalyptus, baby blue Pacific, and ’70s-inspired Terracotta — allow for creative freedom and many a matchy-matchy moment with your overnight bag or makeup case.
Speaking of that, Capsule also sells Parcels in which to organize your capsules, which are clear for increased visibility and boast magnetic, omnidirectional closure (while also magnetizing to each other, if you buy in multiples). When open, they can serve as makeshift trays in your hotel bathroom, which, let’s be honest, probably lacks shelf space. Getting one or two will ensure you’ll never come across broken zippers or mismatched toiletry bags again — making jet-setting that much more enjoyable.
Not sure what exactly you’ll end up transferring into your new Cadence Capsule? There are now Flex offerings which pair seamlessly with The Flex Extender, an add-on adds an extra 1.43 ounces of room by rotating onto the top and creating a snug fit. Instead of awkwardly reaching in with your fingers to scoop the last of your shaving cream, you can simply unscrew the extender and save yourself both the hassle and the time.
Cadence launched in 2020 and always had sustainability — especially as it relates to cutting back on single-use plastics — at the core of its ethos. According to the brand, “9 billion single-use plastic travel bottles and 6 billion silicone travel bottles will end up on beaches” in our lifetime, which are statistics they’re trying to remedy by manufacturing products that don’t have to be swapped for new ones or discarded, ever. In addition, Cadence’s production process is big on reusing leftover scrap material, its packaging is either completely recyclable or compostable, and Capsules themselves are partially made of ocean-bound plastic from beaches around the world.
Taking the Cadence Capsule System for a spin will treat your skincare products, makeup go-tos, and hair care routine to the love they’ve always deserved while you’re busy exploring a new city or lounging in a cabana. It will also make you feel good about helping the earth, if only a capsule at a time.
