The 2025 Grammy Awards brought many history-making moments for the world to see, but the beauty looks were just as referential. As the industry’s biggest stars gathered at the Crypto Arena in Los Angeles on Sunday, Feb. 2, the red carpet boasted plenty of beauty inspiration. We’re talking a mix of Old Hollywood glam and maximalism, from retro bobs to classic red lips and statement-making tuxedo nails. Of all the styles to dominate music’s big night, though, there was one outlier that stood out: the “jellyfish” haircut, further cementing it as an unexpected red carpet-approved trend.
After going viral on TikTok nearly two years ago, the sea animal-themed hairstyle is a mix between a mullet and bowl cut that plays on different shapes and lengths – and it’s proving to be the ultimate show of confidence. The cut is usually marked by the top portion sitting on the outer layer of hair, ending around mid-ear, reflecting the bell-shaped body of a jellyfish. The longer layer in the back emulates the tentacles. While the style has been cosigned by a handful of stars before (see: Kerry Washington and Nicole Kidman), iterations of the jellyfish cut at this year’s Grammys were seen on Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga, and Billie Eilish – highly reflective of the individualism we continuously see amongst beauty trends today.
Although the style may seem impractical for everyday wear (or is it?) the Grammys showed the trend is versatile and can be worn in high and low-brow ways. As we continue to fill our mood boards with Grammys beauty moments, take a moment to bask in our favorite jellyfish haircuts from the night – plus products to shop, used by celebrity experts.
