I’m the type of person who can’t pass a floral stand without stopping, even at the grocery store. When the sky is gray and the forecast predicts rain, a colorful bouquet feels just as essential as a bowl of steaming soup. When someone is celebrating a milestone or needs their day to be brightened, bringing flowers is one of my favorite gestures, but it’s not always possible to deliver them in person.

I got the chance to test out 1-800 Flowers’s flower delivery service, which gave me the opportunity to be the sender and receiver. With Valentine’s Day approaching, the site is not only bursting with stunning arrangements, but they even have a dedicated Valentine’s Day section which curates a smaller selection of arrangements in a wide range of prices. As a peony-lover, I chose the Precious Peony Bouquet ($95, originally $110). Keep reading to see what the flowers looked like, what surprised me, and whether I would use this service again.

What I Like About the 1-800 Flowers Precious Peony Bouquet

If you enjoy having lots of options, you’ll appreciate that 1-800 Flowers allows you to not only choose the size of the arrangement, but the vase (if you opt for one at all). I’m currently leaning heavily into the cottagecore aesthetic and am a sucker for wicker, so I was thrilled to see the brand had a small wicker vase option. The wicker basket has a handle and holds a simple glass vase – and would also be perfect for holding a pillar candle or utensils when I’m hosting.

When the flowers arrived at my doorstep, they were carefully packaged in a box with easy-to-follow instructions for opening and even caring for the flowers. The box included the flowers and vase, which were packaged separately, a personalized note, a note card with tips for extending the life of the arrangement, as well as a packet of flower food (with a tip to use half when you first put the flowers in water, and the second half after a couple of days).

The peonies arrived as barely-opened buds, which was perfect since they’re slowly opening as the days progress. On day two, the peonies are already starting to open enough to enjoy the rosette-style bloom and have that sweet and subtle fragrance that you hope for – there’s nothing worse than a bouquet of scentless flowers. If I re-fill the vase with fresh water tomorrow and use the rest of the flower food packet, the bouquet should last up to five days, which is a satisfying amount of time. While the blooms are on the smaller side, they’re lovely and have interesting yet subtle color variations that range from creamy to flamingo pink with ribbons of magenta.

What’s Worth Noting About the 1-800 Flowers Precious Peony Bouquet

I love arranging flowers, so I enjoyed the process of reading the instructions card and trimming the peony stems to the suggested length. Just keep in mind that this arrangement does require the receiver to do a little work. That said, having the right vase conveniently supplied, along with flower food, made it a pretty seamless process that only took a few minutes to do. I would re-order these for someone who loves peonies, lives far away, and doesn’t mind taking a minute to trim them and place them in water.

If you’re planning on sending this arrangement for Valentine’s Day, you’ll want to note that you can save money by sending the bouquet a bit early. For example, if you choose for it to arrive on February 13, the delivery cost is $3 compared to $10 on February 14 and $15 on February 15.

Who Is the 1-800 Flowers Precious Peony Bouquet Best For?

This bouquet is ideal for the peony-lover in your life who also appreciates a good-looking vase that’s easy to repurpose. If you’re sending them to someone who lives too far for an in-person delivery, this is a ridiculously convenient way to dazzle them.
