If you want our opinion, you don’t need a special occasion to change up your hair color. Whether you’re itching to do something different because the seasons are changing, you just went through a breakup, or it’s a day that ends in “y,” any reason is a valid reason. Just take Beyoncé, for example.
The star just went through a post-“Renaissance” World Tour hair refresh, which she debuted at the Los Angeles premiere of Taylor Swift‘s “The Eras Tour” movie on Oct. 11. The singer’s hair was a bright, almost platinum blond hue for most of her tour, but she recently added a few darker pieces for some contrast and dimension. Her colorist Rita Hazan dubbed the shade “chantilly,” because it’s a creamy blond with golden tones, similar to chantilly cream, the dessert topping.
Ahead, Hazan breaks down everything you need to know about the chantilly hair color, including how to get it, who it looks best on, and how to maintain the blond shade at home.
What Is the Chantilly Blond Hair Color?
According to Hazan, who’s responsible for Beyoncé’s latest look, the chantilly hair color is a creamy blond with a little warmth, like buttercream. “This [shade] works well on all hair types and all skin tones,” Hazan says. “You just need to adjust the color and lighter-darker shades to suit you [and your] hair color.”
If you’d like to try it out for yourself, make sure you arrive at the salon with inspiration photos of what you want, as well as what you don’t, so you and your colorist can make sure you’re on the same page. Also, Hazan suggests asking your stylist to keep the tones buttery and golden.
“I lighten the base two to three shades and add some highlights to create contrast and dimension, but not too many,” Hazan says. “If your hair is very light and solid, you can add lowlights one to two shades darker or warmer to get the contrast.”
Plan to be in the salon every six to eight weeks in order to keep your color looking fresh and vibrant.
