Lucy Liu brought a high-shine lift to the “Rosemead” photo call at the 78th Locarno Film Festival on Thursday, stepping out in strappy heeled sandals from Aldo.

The style — which appears to be the Katelina in a beige patent finish — featured a slim-toe strap, matching ankle band and an open silhouette balanced on a concealed platform and a sharp stiletto. The patent upper gave a reflective edge, catching light under the gown’s embroidered hem. The Katelina remains available in shiny black patent, dark beige and green suede, though this beige patent version is not currently listed on Aldo’s site.

It’s Liu’s third distinct heel choice for “Rosemead” events this summer. In June at Tribeca Film Festival, she wore matte black Santoni platforms with a block heel beneath a daisy-appliquéd Monique Lhuillier gown. A day earlier, she appeared at Chanel and Tribeca’s Through Her Lens luncheon in the house’s black mary janes with a stacked faux-pearl heel.

Compared to those, the Aldo sandal is the most pared-back — still a platform, but slimmer, glossier and without embellishment. The change keeps the height while redirecting focus to the dress’s texture and construction.

Her dress, from Australian couture label Paolo Sebastian, paired a square neckline and wide straps with paneled seams that framed alternating sections of lace and openwork. A solid embroidered hemline met the top of the platform, creating a defined break between fabric and shoe.

For Aldo, the moment reinforces its knack for adaptable, event-ready silhouettes. The Canadian brand’s recent Artist Series leaned into collaboration and custom artwork, but the Katelina comes from its core line — a style built to work across formal and casual settings while still holding up in close-up shots.

“Rosemead,” directed by Eric Lin, follows Liu as a terminally ill Chinese-immigrant mother who discovers her teenage son’s disturbing fixation on mass violence. The Locarno photo call marks the film’s European festival debut, extending its run after a June premiere at Tribeca.
