Dua Lipa attended a cocktail reception hosted by the American Film Institute on Friday in Los Angeles. The event celebrated Greta Gerwig’s position as the AFI Fest’s Guest Artistic Director.
For the occasion, the pop star wore a leather shirtdress paired with maroon pumps. Her additional accessories included a small crossbody and a set of diamond-encrusted jewelry.
Lipa’s makeup consisted of a smokey eye and a muted burgundy lip. The singer also debuted auburn hair, straying from her typically dark tresses.
At the event, Lipa posed with the evening’s guest of honor, Gerwig. Lipa made her film debut in Gerwig’s “Barbie,” in which she played a mermaid iteration of Mattel’s famous doll. She also appeared on the movie’s soundtrack alongside fellow superstar artists like Ice Spice, Haim and Karol G.
Other celebrity attendees at AFI’s reception included Billie Eilish, Mark Ronson and Gerwig’s longtime partner, writer-director Noah Baumbach.
“Barbie” certainly won’t be Lipa’s final film appearance. Early next year, she’ll feature in the spy flick “Argylle,” which is directed by “Kingsman” helmer Matthew Vaughn. Henry Cavill, Bryce Dallas Howard and Sam Rockwell star in the upcoming thriller, which is set to premiere in theaters in February. “Argylle” will eventually be available to stream on Apple TV+.
Lipa also has new music in the works. In an interview with the New York Times Magazine, she teased that her next album, due out in 2024, is inspired by 1970s psychedelia. Rumors have swirled that Lipa tapped Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker to produce her new LP, though this hasn’t been confirmed.
