Tom Hanks is returning to the New York stage this fall, for the first time in over a decade.

The Academy Award-winning actor is costarring with Kelli O’Hara in “This World of Tomorrow,” a new production, at The Shed. Hanks stars in the play as Bert Allenberry, “a disenchanted scientist from the future” who time-travels from the end of the 21st century in search of love, and finds himself at the 1939 New York World’s Fair in Queens.

Hanks cowrote the play, based on his collection of short stories, with James Glossman. Tony-winner Kenny Leon, who most recently worked on the Broadway revival of “Othello,” will direct.
