Are you a good bride or a bad bride?
That’s the question Ines Di Santo is popping this fall thanks to an engagement with the upcoming film “Wicked: for Good.”
Premiering Nov. 21, the blockbuster starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo inspired a five-piece bridal capsule, which will have its own premiere Tuesday at her NYBFW show in downtown Manhattan.
Universal Pictures, which owns the intellectual property rights to “Wicked,” initially approached Di Santo’s daughter and managing partner Veronica about costuming Grande as Glinda for a wedding scene in the sequel. “Veronica had already seen the play and is a longtime fan, so she was thrilled,” the designer said.
Keeping the opportunity a secret from her mother, Veronica took her to see the movie first to gauge her reaction. Luckily, Di Santo was “blown away by the experience,” and when Veronica finally revealed there was an offer on the table, said she “couldn’t have been happier. I left the theater brimming with ideas.”

To translate the wonderful world of Oz into gowns, Di Santo said she immersed herself in “the scenography, the colors and, of course, the essence of the characters. You’ll see nods to these woven throughout, and I think the audience will recognize them immediately.”
Of course, Glinda is a saccharine cloud of pink spun sugar tulle with iridescent butterflies sprinkled on top like pixie dust. Elphaba, on the other hand, is a femme-fatale fishtail in emerald green and comes with a devilish-looking feathered cape.
The remaining three dresses are just as fantastical, albeit more traditional in white, save for the embellishments, which unite pink and green and introduce gold to represent the Yellow Brick Road.
Di Santo says elaborate fairy-tale themes similar to “Wicked” are trending among couples who are planning their big days like big-screen productions. And whether it’s transforming their ceremony into an enchanted forest or renting a castle for the evening, “the dress plays a key role in bringing that dream to life.”
Any of hers could slot into either of those settings easily and with retailers expected to receive their stock pieces of the “Wicked: For Good” collection by April next year, they’ll arrive just in time to get hitched somewhere over the summer.
