Summer’s blockbuster movies mean for vacation, it might just be worth staying close to home. In 1975, the release of the movie “Jaws,” filmed on Martha’s Vineyard, put the small New England resort island on more vacationers’ radar. Long favored for its quaint beaches, small-town feel and eclectic inhabitants, the island has drawn notable names from fashion designers to celebrities and former presidents to its shores. But it was movie magic that helped cement Martha’s Vineyard’s summer mystic. In 1974, Women’s Wear Daily was there to capture the filming of “Jaws,” the first movie shot there. The movie transformed the island into a cinematic legend and keeps it on our own summer vacation checklist.
