When Crocs first got the license for “Cars” to release Lightning McQueen Classic Clogs in 2017, it only made the shoes in children’s sizes. The subsequent expansion into adult sizing in 2019 became a craze few were likely to predict, and years of restocks have continued to sell out.
Adding to the lore soon will be the “Cars” x Crocs Classic Clog “Lightning McQueen Dinoco,” which sees the wearable rendition of the character get a makeover in the style of a daydream from the franchise’s first film. The baby blue clog features branding for the fictional motorsports team, and Crocs’ commitment to making its flagship shoe look like a car now goes a step further by turning the heel strap into a spoiler.
The switch from red to blue comes from the scene in “Cars” when Lightning McQueen is offered a renowned spot on the Dinoco. Owen Wilson’s character allows himself to imagine the glamorous life with Dinoco, showing the audience what he’d look like with the blue paint job, but he ultimately decides to remain loyal to Rust-eze.
