Taylor Swift proved all that glitters isn’t always gold in her silver and black Tamara Ralph gown at the 2026 MTV VMAs on Sunday night held at Los Angeles’s Peacock Theater.
The Grammy Award-winning artist turned to the Australian couturier’s fall 2026 couture collection, wearing a gown with a black bodice with a halter neckline and a contrasting sparkling silver skirt with a thigh-high slit.
The dress was a formal farewell to the singer’s “Showgirl” era, with its restrained elements at the bodice and structured shimmer for the maxi skirt. The bodice was crafted with a soft black fabric that artfully contrasted the sheer material at the back, which added a touch of sensuality.

The drop waist of the dress transitioned from a subdued and sensual style to shimmering structure, with a gathered element at one of Swift’s hips. She kept her shoes in the same shimmering silver lane in a pair of strappy pumps.
As for accessories, Swift continued the shimmer with diamond dangle earrings by Leviev and an Etho Maria diamond ring. Stylist Joseph Cassell Falconer curated Swift’s look.
The “Patient Zero” singer is just the latest to sport one of Tamara Ralph’s fall 2026 couture designs. Swift follows Zendaya, who wore a selection from the same collection to the “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” London premiere in July.
“Tamara Ralph turned her gaze to South Asia, whence her husband hails, finding ample inspiration in the layered jewelry and asymmetric sari silhouettes she found there. ‘It’s a subtle hint towards a region that holds a place in my heart,’ said the Australian designer backstage before her show,” Alex Wynne wrote in WWD’s review of the collection.
The 2026 MTV Video Music Awards returned to Los Angeles on Sunday at the Peacock Theater, marking the show’s first West Coast edition since 2017. Snoop Dogg hosts the ceremony, which airs live on CBS and MTV and streams on Paramount+.
Madonna, this year’s most-nominated artist, is set to open the show, while Nirvana will receive the Video Vanguard Award and Taylor Swift will be honored with MTV’s inaugural Artist Director Honors.
