Women’s suiting moments often lean safe, emulating classic tailoring in black-and-white hues. Breaking the mold, Rachel Zegler chose a feminine suiting moment with enough variety to elevate the silhouette. The actress wore the suit, hailing from Mark Gong’s spring 2025 runway, on the red carpet at the opening night of the Broadway production “A Few Good Men,” which took place on Oct. 29 in New York.
The “Snow White” star’s look consisted of a high-waisted gray pencil skirt adorned with a floral motif on the front panel, paired with a knotted gray strapless bra top and a cropped tailored blazer. The winding, blooming floral motifs were cast in a silver hue, standing in contrast to the gray background they were laid on. Zegler’s runway look was originally styled with a coordinating headscarf. The look seemingly leaned into the “office siren” trend that took the fashion world by storm back in late 2023 and early 2024.
Bra tops have been a major trending moment as of late both on and off the runway. During the 2027 season alone, designers like Aisling Camps, For All Mankind, Anna Sui, Aknvas, and Bottega Veneta have included some form of a bra top in their showings. Some runway moments were double-layered, while others were crafted of dainty lace, reminiscent of an undergarment.
The trend seems to be a residual of the “gorpcore” trend from the 2020s that was athletic and outdoorsy. Embracing simplistic and sensual fashions is nothing new, but the trend marks a shift in tastes and temperament, moving away from overexaggerated campy silhouettes. Celebrities like Rihanna, Tyla, and Jennifer Lopez have also adopted the bra top, some taking on the trend full-force paired with low-rise bottoms.
The bra top trend is also very reminiscent of the early 2000s, when we saw folks embracing lingerie as outerwear. Bra tops worn by celebrities vary from denim bedazzled to mesh with structured black underwire. Even as the weather gets colder, celebrities seem to be choosing the bra top again and again.
Worn with her Mark Gong look, Zegler wore metallic silver pumps, playing on the silver in her ensemble, accompanied by John Hardy silver rings and earrings. “A Few Good Men” opened on Broadway on Oct. 29, and will run for a limited 13 weeks at the Lincoln Center. The show stars Emmy Award winner Bradley Whitford, Tom Blyth, and is directed by six-time Tony Award winner Michael Arden.
