On Thursday night, Gigi Hadid celebrated the opening of the fourth location of her luxury knitwear line, Guest in Residence, on New York City’s Madison Avenue. Hadid was thrilled about the new venue, telling WWD, “The upper eastside is quintessential New York and what we think about when we think about those iconic New York City old movies. It’s very nostalgic.” For the occasion, Hadid combined a variety of her favorite pieces, which included a skirt from the Guest in Residence collection.
Calling her ensemble “sweater weather cocktail attire,” Hadid appeared in a red plaid tartan skirt. Known for their 100% cashmere pieces, Guest in Residence ensures fashionable clothing can also be comfortable. “I just love that a skirt can also be so cozy,” Hadid said. “I’m basically wearing a blanket tonight.” She wore the skirt with a fitted charcoal-colored halter top and a pair of two-toned leather cowboy boots, a gift from fashion designer Donatella Versace. Hadid joked, “I thought that it went with the western vibe but we’re also on the upper east side.”
While the hodgepodge of pieces were very different, Hadid managed to blend them together seamlessly thanks to a tasteful mix of earth-toned hues. Hadid noted, “I love mixing some different textures within the same color scheme but not too matchy-matchy. It’s just fun.” Fun is a trademark of the Guest in Residence brand, with Hadid saying she loved that she could dress up but “still comfortable and able to have a great night and feel like myself.”
Founded in 2022, Hadid’s Guest in Residence has seen considerable growth over the past four years. They’ve opened locations in major cities, including a Los Angeles venue that debuted in 2024. Hadid’s vision for Guest in Residence came from her childhood, the fashion line largely inspired by hand-me-down sweaters from her parents that she often wore growing up.
At Thursday night’s celebration, Hadid treated guests to everything from martini glasses filled with cigarettes to caviar served with potato chips. The store’s location was meant to evoke a homey vibe, with books and board games on display on the second floor. Toward the end of the night, Hadid blew out candles on four separate cakes, each one meant to honor one Guest in Residence location.
