The revamped Philadelphia 76ers are off to a hot start with one of the best records across the league at 5-1. The combination of LeBron James, Tyrese Maxey, Jaylen Brown, Joel Embiid and VJ Edgecombe has proved formidable against some of the Eastern Conference’s top teams — including the reigning champion New York Knicks — but despite Philadelphia’s star-studded roster, it’s Maxey that’s leading the way in scoring. With a 28.2 points per game average, the two-time NBA All-Star is among the league’s top scorers, and he’s been getting it done in his just-released debut New Balance signature sneaker.
Along with the New Balance Maxey V1’s debut black-and-blue colorway, Maxey has also been lacing up another style that will arrive at retail in November. Keeping with the 76ers-friendly color palette, the latest Maxey V1 dons a Red Rock/Black combination which follows the blocking of the debut makeup. The predominantly black sneaker combines mesh, synthetic leather and suede across its upper with brick red overlays.

From a spec standpoint, the Maxey V1 is equipped with some of New Balance’s top technologies including FuelCell foam intended to offer forward-moving energy return, stability-focused Quixrail in the form of a decoupled plate on both sides of the shoe, and molded reinforcements on the sneaker’s rubber outsole.
Visually, the Maxey V1 borrows from fan-favorite New Balance lifestyle models including a lace system informed by the Boston-based brand’s 2002 sneaker and various cues from the fan-favorite 9060. In October, Maxey told Footwear News that the design was intentionally inspired by New Balance’s existing models.
“I wanted it to embody certain shoes and certain silhouettes of New Balance, the numbers that they have right now, and I added my own little twist to it. I wanted it to be cool. I wanted it to look nice. I wanted you to be able to wear it on the court and off the court,” Maxey said.
The New Balance Maxey V1 Red Rock/Black will be released Monday from newbalance.com and select retailers including Snipes for $130. The sneaker’s style code is UMAX59K. Readers can find a full look at the upcoming release in the gallery below.
