Pre-fall is the best collection of the year because it’s an ode to fall, lighter,” said Veronica Miele Beard, highlighting a key point of their latest collection during a showroom appointment. She and her partner Veronica Swanson Beard lead with a sense of realness in their clothing, outfitting a legion of busy women throughout their lives: day to night, work to weekend. Each collection is an evolution of a wardrobe, as apposed to a total pivot, and their pre-fall lineup has them musing on ideas of everyday polish with a bit of tomboy and Nineties flare.

“We’ve pulled back the last few seasons—less print, less embellishment, cleaner shapes—and this collection is a continuation on that. It’s all about simple sophistication,” Veronica Swanson Beard explained.

Dress and vest shapes stood out as focal points for the season, pieces meant to round out their customer’s closet. “We want to be a top pick for dresses, it’s an easy piece,” Miele Bead said. “People need their daily uniform.” Theirs came with a seam ruching around the waist, adding an hourglass shape to the garment. Vests came as dresses or tops for pants with a coat-like vest with side slits being particularly intriguing as a smart transitional piece that would work in a mix of climates.

The lightness came in the fabrications, including stretch linens, light gauge knits and easy essentials for the busy days of summer, paired with light wash or colored denim. Jackets— a staple for the brand— were a bit looser and boxy, a refreshing look back on an Eighties trend, seen here with their signature polish and ease and crest buttons. It’s these little details that their customer has come to covet and come back for season after season.
