Zang Toi’s fall 2024 collection was a personal homage to his late brother, taking inspiration from the duo’s many trips to Paris.
“He was the closest friend that I had,” Toi said. “He’s been to Paris many times with me and his favorite neighborhood was Saint-Germain-des-Prés. He loves to shop, so when he got very ill I decided to do a collection of this neighborhood. He left us several months ago, so this is like the most personal runway show for me in 30 years of runway shows. All I want to do today is I hope to put on the most beautiful show in his honor.”
Toi interpreted the Parisian inspiration in an edgy way with the use of heavy outerwear, multiple textures, brocades and a moody color palette of black, red and pink. Roses were a large motif, appearing as prints and as three-dimensional elements pinned onto looks. One standout piece was a red maxidress with a plunging back that was embellished with 3D roses.
The collection stuck true to Toi’s signature ladylike eveningwear, offering tried and true silhouettes that are sure to make an impression with his clientele.
Toi included several men’s looks, leveraging the edgier aesthetic for styles like a black suede jacket paired with leather black pants worn under a campy pink shearling coat.
Toi’s lineup stuck true to the design codes he’s established in the 30-plus years of his label and showed an edgier side.
