After sneaker loafer hybrids and their countless variations were a top contender for shoe of the summer, it’s looking like it could be the season of the sneaker boot. Brands far and wide are getting in on the acton, whether it be introducing all-new models or putting winterized spins on familiar silhouettes. Count Adidas in on the action, as the brand has given its classic Superstar sneaker a makeover which takes on the look so seamlessly, it could be mistaken for another famous brown boot from afar.
The just-released Adidas Superstar Boot combines the Herzogenaurach, Germany-based company’s retro 1970 Superstar model with cues from the brand’s defunct Alpine outdoor line. The result is a shoe that’s well-equipped for winter weather while still maintaining some elements of the iconic Adidas model. Overall, the new release leans more boot than athletic sneaker, which should serve it well in water-logged outdoor scenarios.

From a technical perspective, the Superstar Boot relies on traditional boot fixtures such as a water-resistant nubuck upper with a gusseted tongue that keeps both debris and moisture from entering. Suede is used on the heel counter and tongue, while the Superstar’s signature shell toe is presented in a molded nubuck. On the bottom, a lugged rubber outsole replaces the smoother traction that’s found on the Superstar sneaker. Metal hardware and alternate red shoelaces finish off this updated look.
