Would you ever sleep in your makeup? My answer varies depending on which version of me you’re asking. College me? Absolutely. I was under the influence more often than not, and sleeping in my makeup wasn’t something I thought twice about (especially because I rarely had an issue with acne). 25- to 32-year-old me? Absolutely not. The only thing I want on my face when I go to bed is my carefully curated skin-care routine. But 33-year-old me will do it, only if I’m sleeping in the Youthforia Date Night Skin Tint Serum Foundation ($48).
Apparently, it’s so good for your skin that you can actually sleep in it. The brand even tested out its claims with 31 participants who slept in the product for 28 days. At first, I was skeptical. Now, after trying it out myself, I’m a believer – with a few caveats. Keep reading for my full review, and to find out how sleeping in my foundation went for me.

What I Like About the Youthforia Date Night Skin Tint Serum Foundation
I know this product is touted as a buildable skin tint, but in my opinion, it has the consistency of a foundation. That being said, it isn’t thin or watery, but it still feels lightweight. Overall, it works well to even out my skin tone, and it doesn’t get dry, flaky, or cling to rough patches throughout the day.
However, the biggest thing I like about this product is the fact that it didn’t break me out – even while I was sleeping in it. It feels very much like my skin when I wear it. In all honesty, I didn’t love sleeping in my makeup; the entire process went against everything I had ever learned from dermatologists. But overall, it didn’t turn out so bad. Yes, I woke up with my white pillowcases looking a little dingy, but skin-wise, everything was pretty normal.
Would I recommend sleeping in this product (or any makeup product) regularly? Probably not. But since the brand claimed it was doable – although I think it’s mostly marketing – I wanted to test it out for myself. No harm, no foul.
How to Use the Youthforia Date Night Skin Tint Serum Foundation
The brand recommends starting with a primer. You can wear this product as a light skin tint or a medium-coverage foundation, depending on how you apply it. For light coverage, it suggests putting half of a pump to one full pump on the back of your hand and then applying it to your face with a beauty sponge or your fingers. For medium coverage, it suggests putting one to two pumps on the back of your hand and then applying to your face with a brush.
I use shade 315, which is light-medium to medium with a neutral undertone. At first glance, I thought it would be too light, but it worked quite well for me, although I’ll likely need to switch to something a bit darker as the weather warms up and I spend more time in the sun. When I tested it out to go to sleep, I cleansed my skin and applied my nighttime skin-care products. I used a brand-new, freshly washed foundation brush to put it on my cheeks and forehead; I skipped my neck altogether.
When I tested it out for daytime use, I applied it with a bit of moisturizer mixed in to thin it out. I like to blend everything with a beauty sponge to get a sheer finish.
