Gabrielle Union and Michael Kors have a deep history. The two have been Met Gala dates multiple times, and Union is a frequent face in the designer’s front rows. To mark his 45th anniversary, Union shared a behind-the-scenes look with WWD of her time at his fall 2026 show, and what makes their relationship so special.
WWD: What is your favorite Michael Kors memory?|
Gabrielle Union: “One of my favorite memories was attending the Met with Michael Kors a couple of years ago. I wore this incredible, fish-scale, fluid dress that felt so special and intentional. What made it unforgettable wasn’t just the final look, but the entire process leading up to it — the fittings, the brainstorming, watching ideas evolve and merge. Being part of creating something truly one-of-a-kind from start to finish was such a meaningful experience.”

WWD: How does wearing Michael Kors make you feel?
G.U.: “Chic — and genuinely put together. There’s an ease to it that still feels polished, like everything is intentional without trying too hard.”
WWD: What is a favorite memory of your relationship with Michael?
G.U.: “Honestly, some of my favorite moments are during fittings — just drinking Champagne, laughing and spending that one-on-one time together. It’s such an intimate setting that you really get a sense of his personality and sense of humor. He’s incredibly calm throughout the design process, never stressed, which makes the entire experience feel relaxed and fun. We laugh a lot, and that energy always carries through into the final look.”
WWD: How did you land on the look for this season’s show?
G.U.: “I’ve always loved a drop-crotch pant, so when I saw they were part of the collection, I immediately gravitated toward them. I asked for the pair with the most sparkle. It’s a little sexier than what I usually go for, but that’s what made it exciting. Even though it’s winter and I questioned whether it was the wisest choice, I loved how bold it felt.”
WWD: What is your favorite part of New York Fashion Week?
G.U.: “The buzz, the creativity, and especially the street style. I’m most inspired by everyday New Yorkers who show up and fully immerse themselves in it all. Seeing how people put things together in their own way — and feeling that collective energy throughout the city — is what really inspires me the most.”
