At the 2026 CFDA Awards on Monday night, bigger was apparently better. Iman went big on bows, Tinashe big on skirts, Allison Janney on sleeves and Esther McGregor on a particularly enormous patterned silhouette.
Designs by Thom Browne and Christian Siriano, among others, experimented with exaggerated proportions, large skirts and statement sleeves. WWD breaks down the looks that took up quite a bit of space at New York’s American Museum of Natural History.
Iman
Iman went classic in black and white Thom Browne for Monday night’s awards. The longtime model wore a white-collared silky, sleeveless blouse with a front cutout framed by a large black bow at the base of the collar.
A black column skirt contrasted the blouse and matched the bow, while wispy ruffles at the back creating a short train. Statement jewelry pieces, from earrings to rings and bracelets, completed the look, along with pointed-toe black pumps.
Tinashe
Tinashe wore a variation on one of Christopher John Rogers’ designs for her CFDA Awards look. The “All Hands on Deck” singer embraced the bra top trend in white with black and green stripes. She coordinated the top with a low-rise skirt that ballooned into an exaggerated silhouette, with panels of yellow, red and white breaking up the black fabric.
Allison Janney
Janney opted for a design from Christian Siriano’s spring 2027 ready-to-wear collection, sporting a fuchsia gown with statement satin sleeves. The oversize sleeves billowed outward beside the otherwise, sleek, high-neck column dress, making for a considerable difference in volume. The Oscar-winning actress added a pair of statement dangle earrings to complete the look.
Esther McGregor
Like Janney, McGregor also went with a spring 2027 ready-to-wear collection, this time from Thom Browne. The burgeoning actress and daughter of actor Ewan McGregor sported a plaid-patterned bodice with a white-collared shirt, striped tie and tailored vest, which opened into a statement tulip skirt decorated with houndstooth and checked patterns. She also wore black-and-white platform heeled pumps, adding even more height to the exaggerated silhouette.
The 2026 CFDA Fashion Awards, presented by Amazon Fashion, were held Monday at the American Museum of Natural History in New York, with Keke Palmer hosting.
The ceremony celebrated American fashion across womenswear, menswear, accessories and emerging design, with nominees including Michael Kors, Tory Burch, Ralph Lauren, Willy Chavarria and Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen of The Row. Special honors included Vaccarello’s International Designer of the Year Award, Tory Burch’s Positive Change Award and Peter Marino’s Fashion Icon Award.
