Rap star Cardi B got involved with politics again on Friday night when she gave a speech at Kamala Harris‘ “When We Vote We Win” rally in West Allis, Wisc. Having long been vocal on social media and having hosted conversations with the likes of Bernie Sanders in the past, Cardi put on all-white, in the vein of fictitious political operative Olivia Pope from the popular show “Scandal,” to endorse Harris.
Styled by longtime collaborator Kollin Carter, Cardi wore a white Nappa leather jacket from Kristina Fedelskaya. The piece is the company’s Her Shawl Collar Reglan Jacket, which features a sumptuous shawl collar as well as bunched three-quarter length sleeves. With its wrap silhouette, it cinches at the waist to create an hourglass shape. The rapper styled it with a white leather miniskirt.
The “WAP” performer additionally wore white gloves and a pair of white Christian Louboutin pumps. In ways, her look could be viewed as putting a modern twist on the style of first lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, who often favored tailored skirt suits.

“Last night was a moment I feel like I’ve been waiting for my whole life,” Cardi B wrote of her appearance on Instagram. “If you know me you know I’m the biggest history nerd and I’ve been talking about politics on all my platforms for a long long time so this was a dream come true.”
On Instagram, she further stipulated that she didn’t get paid for her endorsement and spent her own money on her travel as well as her glam, which included an up-do hairstyle by longtime hair stylist Tokyo Stylez and makeup artist Erika La’Perla.
White has significance for women in politics. It has long been associated with the suffragette movement. It has been a trope increasingly injected in contemporary conversations since Hillary Clinton’s 2016 bid for the presidency, when she and her campaign employed it often. Since then, Harris herself wore it for her historic victory speech after winning the vice presidency. While it has not been a go-to for her own sartorial decisions on the campaign trail this year, there were a large group of women wearing white at the Democratic National Convention, where Harris accepted the nomination. Among them was Kerry Washington, who notably played Olivia Pope.
Cardi is just the latest bold-faced name that Harris has welcomed in the days leading up to the election. Over the past week she’s had supporters like a blazer-dress wearing Beyonce, oversize suit-clad Kelly Rowland, monochromatic Jennifer Lopez and a sensible pantsuit-donning Jessica Alba at her rallies.
