This summer, denim ran the gamut from distressed and embellished pieces to closet staples like slouchy blue jeans and coordinating sets—and the red carpet was often the best place to see the trends.

Coordinates were an easy choice for a variety of events. Actress Jessica Biel attended Comic-Con San Diego in a deconstructed denim vest and matching pleated jeans. Podcaster and writer Evan Ross Katz chose green denim coordinates for a screening of “The Shards.” Jaden Smith wore a gray-blue jean jacket and flare jeans to the Los Angeles premiere of “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” and actor Paul W. Downs chose JW Anderson’s workwear coordinates to an Emmy event by HBO.

Loose and wide-leg jeans continued to be a favorite. Jordyn Woods kept it casual in faded jeans and a cardigan at a press event. Anne Hathaway showed her baby bump in slouchy jeans and a hi-low top. Kaia Gerber and Cindy Crawford chose relaxed fits for a Re/Done event and Marc Jacobs styled his roomy blue jeans with a Chanel jacket.

However, slim and skinny fits showed signs of making a comeback. Winnie Harlow styled high-rise cream jeans with a gold chain belt, and Olivia Wilde styled ecru low-rise skinny with a matching jean jacket.

High-profile events also called for embellished denim. Paris Hilton wore wide-leg jeans decorated with star-shaped appliques to the FIFA World Cup. Television presented Carly Steel dressed up a denim shacket with black beading. Embroidery and crystals trimmed the waist and legs of Keke Palmer’s low-rise jeans.
