With Chopard’s newly renovated Southern California flagship, there’s a fusion of modernity and the Swiss luxury jewelry and watch brand’s own timeless sophistication.

Located in the South Coast Plaza regional shopping center in Costa Mesa, Calif., the store underwent a seven-month renovation. It officially reopens at the end of February.

This boutique joins our latest collection of international showrooms, which feature design elements rooted in the local spirit,” said Karl-Friedrich Scheufele, Chopard copresident. “In line with our Fifth Avenue location, in Costa Mesa you will feel California’s vibrant atmosphere, providing a welcoming and memorable client experience.” (Chopard’s Fifth Avenue flagship in Manhattan, which is situated between 56th and 57th Streets in the historic Crown Building, opened in September 2022.)

According to a statement from Chopard, the South Coast Plaza flagship emanates “a warm and inviting atmosphere.” Natural stone flooring, a chic gray palette, earthy tones and light-filled open spaces maintain a strong connection with the outdoors. The shop “captures the essence of quintessential California living,” Chopard said. The design was inspired by the Spanish Colonial Revival style, which featured large luxurious villas with imposing facades that began to be built at the end of the 19th century.

Bespoke Murano glass chandeliers serve as centerpieces and were designed by Barovier & Toso, the centuries-old Venetian glassmaking operation. The hand-crafted works feature glass elements shaped like coffee beans my and inspired by the coffee plantations of California. “The design, rooted in the local environment, reflects local influences, as well as Chopard’s commitment to responsible practices,” Scheufele said, referring to sustainability.

Custom furniture made from fabrics designed by Rubelli, another renowned Venetian company, adds a touch more authenticity and luxury to the space. The store also has a painting by artist A.R. Penck from Scheufele’s private collection, reflecting the company’s commitment to creativity.

The company said the flagship’s “dedicated ‘Haute Joaillerie’ lounge displays Chopard’s most exquisite and artistic creations, as envisioned by Caroline Scheufele, Chopard copresident and artistic director. The collection is centered around an Italian Giallo Reale marble table with meticulous finishing and rich golden tones that echo its designs.”

The bridal salon’s décor reflects the artistic director’s passion for nature, by featuring roses that inspired Chopard’s Happy Sport collection and the Rose de Caroline fragrance.

The gentlemen’s lounge offers a tailored experience for fine watchmaking aficionados, showcasing timepieces from the Alpine Eagle and L.U.C Haute Horlogerie collections featuring ethical gold and innovative materials like Lucent Steel. “A forest-green marble table, redolent of the L.U.C XPS Forest Green timepiece, further underscores Chopard’s emphasis on sustainability and enduring elegance,” the company said.

Chopard opened its store in South Coast Plaza in 1999, and has since expanded from its original 1,030 square feet of space to the current 2,275.

Founded in 1860, Chopard began its journey towards sustainable luxury in 2013. Currently, Chopard uses 100 percent ethical gold in the production of its gold watches and jewelry, and manufactures its own Lucent Steel, made with a recycling rate of at least 80 percent, for its steel timepieces.

Chopard is also known for its high-profile partnerships. In addition to serving as an official partner to the Cannes Film Festival since 1998, Chopard has been the official timekeeper of the Italian 1000 Miglia classic car race since 1988.
