Dakota Fanning took this season’s hottest hue for a spin while appearing on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” on Monday. The actress, who is promoting her new series “Ripley,” opted for a red satin dress from John Galliano’s fall 1999 collection, courtesy of vintage purveyor Shrimpton Couture.

Fanning’s slinky frock featured a paisley pattern and velvet straps. Rouge hues are poised for popularity this year after fiery shades took the runways of Valentino, Carolina Herrera and Emilia Wickstead by storm during the fall 2023 season. Stars such as Selena Gomez, Florence Pugh and Kylie Jenner have brought the trend into 2024, incorporating red at events like the Golden Globes and Paris haute couture week.

Fanning accessorized with gold Gianvito Rossi heels and Anita Ko diamond jewelry.

Stylist Samantha McMillen, who also counts Kirsten Dunst and Brie Larson as clients, dressed Fanning for the occasion.

Hairdresser Alissa Frum styled the actress’ blond tresses straightened, while makeup artist Tyron Machhausen gave Fanning rosy blush and a muted cherry lip.

Speaking to Fallon, Fanning recounted her 30th birthday party, which took place last month. “It was one of the best nights of my life,” the actress said.

Fanning also discussed cofounding a production company with her younger sister, Elle. The siblings launched Lewellen Pictures in 2021. “We started as actors and I think we both have this desire to develop our own projects and be a part of things from the ground up,” Fanning shared. “I would never do it with anyone else.”

As for Fanning’s latest project, “Ripley,” the actress said she traveled across Italy throughout the show’s production, calling it “the trip of a lifetime.” The forthcoming adaptation of Patricia Highsmith’s 1955 novel “The Talented Mr. Ripley” was filmed in Capri, Venice, Naples and the Amalfi Coast.

The book was previously made into a film starring Matt Damon, Cate Blanchett and Gwyneth Paltrow. Fanning will take on the latter’s former role as Marge Sherwood in Netflix’s new series, which premieres on April 4.
