The world-famous soccer player is as known for his fashion and hairstyles as he is for his skills on the soccer field.
David Beckham’s rise to stardom began in the early ’90s. The star soccer player signed as a trainee with Manchester United, beginning his journey to becoming one the most accomplished and recognized athletes in the world.
In 1997, he began dating Victoria Adams, best known then as Posh Spice of The Spice Girls. The two became one of the biggest celebrity power couples, a status which has persevered for them to this day. In 1999, Beckham married Adams and she took his last name, becoming Victoria Beckham.
Following the premiere of their Netflix documentary “Beckham,” search interest has sparked in not only their love life but also in David Beckham’s hair. Here, WWD takes a closer look at the soccer star’s ever-changing hairstyles through the years.

1996
During his earlier days with Manchester United, Beckham sported longer hair. The style was reminiscent of many major ’90s celebrities, like Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt, who sported the middle part and hair around the ears.

1998
Throughout much of the ’90s, Beckham seemed to prefer his hair longer. At one point, it came down to the soccer star’s eyes. It still maintained a coiffed appearance despite its longer length.

2001
In the early 2000s, Beckham bid adieu to his ’90s heartthrob hairstyle. The athlete went for a crewcut and a more clean-shaven look. For the next decade, though, he would gravitate between long hair lengths and completely shaving it off.

2002
Beckham is widely credited with the popularity of the faux hawk in the 2000s. Even on the field, the gelled look, which creates the appearance of a mini mohawk styled at the center of the head, held up despite the intensity of many of his soccer matches.

2009
For a brief moment in time in 2009, Beckham sported a mullet. While his hair has gone from long to short, this was a hairstyle that managed to combine the two.

2017
At the 2017 amfAR Gala in Cannes, Beckham went for a tuxedo complemented by a slicked-back hairdo. His essence channeled Sean Connery during the actor’s run as “James Bond.”

2023
As of August, Beckham has brought back the buzzcut. While the now-retired athlete has had an on-again-off-again relationship with this style, it’s here to stay for now.
