Stampd and ready for delivery.

How does a Los Angeles-based menswear designer land a collaboration with a resort in the Maldives?

For Stampd’s Chris Stamp, that introduction was facilitated by the artist Daniel Arsham, who acted as Patina Maldives’ first visiting artist collaborator early last year. What really sold Stamp on the prospect was the Fari Islands resort’s commitment to ocean conversation, though its design and art, music and creativity sensibilities didn’t hurt, either. The ultraluxe property is located on the largest of four man-made islands and stretches across 42 hectares. Brazilian architect Marcio Kogan designed the 90 villas and 20 studios, where guests can unwind with the help of the light-filled James Turrell Skyspace pavilion.

After jetting over to Patina Maldives last year, the idea for an exclusive resort capsule collection started to crystallize. Stampd teamed up with Evan Kwee, vice chairman of Capella Hotel Group and head of hospitality and design for Pontiac Land, Capella’s and Patina’s parent company.

The oceanic assortment features 11 styles that will be available at the exclusive Patina Maldives as of Thursday. Key items include the $198 Patina deep sea v2 puffer tote, $118 trucker caps and the $198 Patina palm swim trunks. Stampd’s online shoppers will be able to purchase the range as of Nov. 4, as will consumers in the brand’s Los Angeles store.

With 10 years in business, Stampd has done several collaborations across food, academics and more.

The collaborative line will debut at Patina Maldives on Thursday.

This is the first fashion tie-up that Patina has done since it started welcoming guests in 2021. Visitors might be able to get a glimpse of Stamp’s design sensibility just by taking a closer look at the resort’s staff. He whipped up a special T-shirt and tote bag for them that will not be sold to others. Patina is already exploring talks for a second capsule with Stampd, according to Luann Alphonso, Capella’s director of communications. Patina is also in discussion with potentially two other collaborations, which will be announced when they are finalized.
