G.H. Bass is bringing back one of its archival silhouettes via a new collaboration with golf apparel brand Metalwood Studio.
The new collaborative shoe takes inspiration from Bass’ original Sportocasin, a moccasin-style lace-up equipped with turf cleats. Discontinued in 1990, the silhouette was originally worn by Bobby Jones during golf’s golden era in the 1920s and throughout his historic Grand Slam campaign.
For this collaborative shoe, the G.H. Bass x Metalwood Studio Sportocasin features a moccasin style toe box on a classic derby style upper. It also features a mixed-material sole made of rubber and wood, as well as a Metalwood branded metallic charm. The shoe is finished in a dark black pebble grain leather with a small Metalwood-branded woven flag label on the lateral side of each shoe.

Cole Young, founder of Metalwood Studio, said in a statement that teaming up with G.H. Bass was a “no-brainer.”
“As the new kid on the block, we hope to collaborate with brand partners that have a rich history and a deep archive,” Young noted. “When the opportunity to work with G.H. Bass presented itself, the first thing we asked was, ‘Have you ever made golf shoes?’— of course, a quick peruse through the archive would lead you straight to [the] jackpot… The Sportocasin was discontinued in 1990 but it’ll look like it didn’t skip a beat.”
Jonathan Frankel, president of G.H. Bass licensee Aldo Product Services, added that he “loved” watching Metalwood Studio grow over the last few years.
“Bringing them in to reimagine the Sportocasin just made sense — it’s a silhouette that played an important role in G.H. Bass’ early history, back when golf was an integral part of the brand,” Frankel said. “The Sportocasin is a unique part of our heritage, and this collaboration gave us the chance to bring it back in a way that feels fresh and relevant, while staying true to the craftsmanship and authenticity that have defined G.H. Bass for generations.”
This is the latest collaboration from Bass as the footwear brand celebrates its 150th anniversary this year.
In May, G.H. Bass and Buck Mason restocked their collaborative black Larson Loafer alongside a new brown colorway. In April, the footwear brand teamed up with Aritzia on a new shoe collection. For this tie-up the duo took on the classic penny loafer and offered it in two distinct styles, the Milton and the Spence.
The G.H. Bass x Metalwood Studio Sportocasin, which retails for $275, is now available on Ghbass.com, Metalwood.studio, Revolve.com, and Nordstrom.com.
