MISSION TO MARS: Matt Dillon is the surprise star of MCM‘s fall campaign, dubbed “From München to Mars” since the collection took inspiration from the German firm’s archives — and the red planet.

“We were honored he said yes,” said Sung-Joo Kim, owner of MCM and its chief visionary officer. “Not only is he highly professional and wonderful to work with, but Matt Dillon also encapsulates MCM’s spirit — a 21st-century maverick.

“We also wanted to work with him as MCM strives for agelessness in order to embody an attitude and a state of mind, rather than an age group,” Kim added.

Hollywood’s obsession with space travel in films — from Stanley Kubrick’s “Contact” to Christopher Nolan’s “Interstellar” — caught Kim’s attention, since they are “about pushing boundaries to new frontiers of the zeitgeist.”

In her view, Dillon “captures the essence of big Hollywood and brings a certain weight to the project as he is a value-driven actor who navigates his career on his own terms through his natural ease and charisma.”

Known for such films as “Drugstore Cowboy,” “Crash,” “Wild Things” and “Asteroid City,” Dillon, 60, portrays Marlon Brando in “Being Maria,” which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year.

MCM played a NASA film about Mars at its Milan presentation last February, and unveiled a fall collection that included silver and ice gray backpacks, moon boots and sparkly shoes.

The campaign puts the spotlight on the Diamant 3D bag with its substantial zippers, futuristic eyewear and backpacks and ready-to-wear in MCM’s signature Cognac Visetos canvas or silvery leather.
