I’ll admit it: I’ve never been a fan of dry shampoo. Since my very first try years ago, I’ve always believed nothing could replace the shine, softness, and actually clean feeling of freshly washed hair. To me, dry shampoo was kind of a scam – it left a white cast, made my hair crunchy, and had an overwhelming scent that made me want to wash it out within hours. That was until I tried the Color Wow Insta-Wow Advanced Dry Shampoo ($32), and let me tell you, I’m a changed woman.

To understand why this is such a big deal, you should know a little about my routine. I’m a shopping editor, and I also run my own clothing brand, Maison des Nus, which means my schedule in New York is nonstop. My way to de-stress is by working out – specifically at CorePower hot sculpt classes four to five times a week in 95-degree rooms. As you can imagine, my hair ends up drenched in sweat every time. For years, that meant I was washing my hair at least four to five times a week. I never felt fully clean otherwise. And yes, sometimes my hair would even smell if I skipped a wash.

Recently though, I’ve been worrying about hair thinning. Constantly washing strips my hair and weakens it, so I’ve been looking for alternatives. Still, I never considered dry shampoo because of my past experiences. But one morning, after another sweaty workout, I finally gave Color Wow a shot.

Here’s what happened: I came home with my hair in a messy post-class bun, sprayed the product a few times all over, and waited. Within minutes, my hair felt softer, smelled fresh (not overly perfumed, just clean), and even had a fluffy, voluminous texture instead of looking slicked back with sweat. The best part? No white cast. My hair looked natural and felt touchable, not stiff or sticky.

What Makes Color Wow Insta-Wow Advanced Dry Shampoo Different?

Unlike traditional formulas that just sit on top of oil, Insta-Wow uses Active Cleansing Technology. Basically, it dissolves oil into micro droplets (like a real shampoo would), while ultrafine starches absorb the rest and let the oil brush right out of your hair. The result is hair that feels genuinely refreshed, silky, soft, and clean, instead of weighed down or chalky.

I will say, styling with hot tools for a fully finished look is still necessary (my bun left my ends looking a little funky), but overall, this product completely changed my perspective on dry shampoo. It didn’t just mask the sweat, it actually refreshed my hair enough that I could run my hands through it confidently.

So yes, I might just be using this more than I’d like to admit. For someone who thought dry shampoo was useless, that’s saying a lot.
