In one of her final engagements as first lady, Jill Biden recycled one of her Schiaparelli looks on Thursday at an event honoring Joining Forces, a White House initiative supporting families of service members and veterans.

Biden wore a red suit consisting of a curved hem blazer and a pencil skirt. The mismatched brass buttons on Biden’s jacket are evocative of the label’s surrealist aesthetic. Her look was custom-designed by Schiaparelli’s current creative director, Daniel Roseberry.

Biden first wore the Schiaparelli skirt suit in 2022 when she met with Spain’s Queen Letizia at Zarzuela Palace in Madrid. On that occasion, she styled her suit with nude Valentino slingbacks and gold jewelry, including a Cartier Panthère timepiece.

The following year, Biden rewore her Schiaparelli suit to meet France’s first lady, Brigitte Macron, at Elysée Palace in Paris. This time, she added on a pair of black Dior slingbacks. Together, the two first ladies’ ensembles alluded to each of their countries’ respective flags, with both the U.S. and the French flags being red, white and blue.

Biden visited France in honor of the United States rejoining the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). The U.S. left the organization during the Trump administration. Biden’s choice to wear Schiaparelli and Dior was a strategic one, as both brands are based in Paris. Under creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri, Dior has also become known for its strong feminist messaging.
