Bieber’s two-toned outfit was designed by creative director Anthony Vaccarello. She revealed to Vogue on the carpet that her look paid homage to the signature Yves Saint Laurent blue — the color was featured through the dress’s flowing skirt and accompanying scarf. She also mentioned that the gold bodice was molded to her body, bringing forth the sculptural vision she had in mind for the event. A pair of chunky gold earrings accented the metallic bodice, while she wore her hair in a slicked-back style for the occasion.

Bieber has been a fixture at the Met Gala since making her debut in 2015 in a Topshop minidress for the “China: Through the Looking Glass” theme. She attended in 2016 in a Tommy Hilfiger gown, 2017 in a Carolina Herrera look, 2018 in a Tommy Hilfiger design, 2019 in an Alexander Wang gown, and in 2021 in a Saint Laurent dress — her first appearance as a couple with husband Justin Bieber.
