A handbag available on Amazon has captured the attention of dupe culture enthusiasts for its striking resemblance to the Hermès Kelly bag. Shoppers can purchase the style for as little as $29 — a striking contrast to the original Kelly bags’ price, which ranges from $8,000 to $12,000, according to Sotheby’s.
The number of searches for “Hermès Kelly dupe” has notably increased on Google since January, following the controversy surrounding the Walmart “Birkin” bag, which exploded on social media in December.
As often happens in the world of dupe culture, the viral dupe bags have gained fame with the help of social media. On TikTok, videos under the Kelly Bag Lookalike umbrella have garnered thousands and thousands of views. A single video by personal shopper Mikayla Vallati reviewing the Amazon Kelly bags was seen more than 760,000 times on the platform.
Former “The Real Housewives of New York City” star Bethenny Frankel also joined the conversation, reviewing different Kelly-like pieces on her account. “Everybody knocks off everything, but let’s just say, in handbags, everybody has knocked off the Kelly,” she said.

Hermès’ Kelly Bag was created in 1935 by Robert Dumas, the grandfather of Hermès artistic director Pierre-Alexis Dumas and former president of the French luxury fashion house. The bag is named after Grace Kelly, who is credited for popularizing the style.
In 2025, a Kelly 25 in Togo leather and Retourne shape retailed around $12,000 at Hermès boutiques, according to Sotheby. In a recent interview with “60 Minutes,” Pierre-Alexis Dumas defended the high price of Hermès bags, including the Kelly style. “Expensive is a product, which is not delivering what it’s supposed to deliver, but you’ve paid quite a large amount of money for it, and then it betrays you. That’s expensive,” he said.
To WWD, Douglas Hand, a fashion lawyer and a member of the business advisory committee of the Council of Fashion Designers of America, explained that dupes such as the Walmart Birkin or the Amazon Kelly bag could affect Hermés in the market. “Even if the purchasing consumer knows the product is not genuine, Hermès’ reputation could be harmed by those who see others carrying the bags and think that Hermès is making shoddy product,” he said in December.
Hermès is known for defending its design rights for decades, targeting exact counterfeits and inspired designs. In 2011, Hermès filed a lawsuit against Thursday Friday for selling canvas bags with Birkin images. In 2012, Hermès won $100 million in damages after it sued 34 websites for selling fake Hermès goods, including counterfeit watches. In 2022, the luxury house sued Mason Rothschild, claiming the artist’s “MetaBirkins” NFTs amounted to trademark infringement.
