Last summer, capri pants made a flurry of appearances on “It” girls from Bella Hadid to Emily Ratajkowski and Hailey Bieber. Pulled from the ’90s and Y2K playbook, the once-polarizing cropped silhouette appeared to get the cool-girl treatment overnight — though it remained unclear whether the trend would extend beyond the fashion circuit.
A season later, the answer is clearer: From the runways to the street-style set, capri pants are back with real momentum, and they’re here to stay. Rather than reading as purely retro, the new wave of capris feels more polished — and intentionally a little offbeat. In an era when so-called “ugly” fashion and unconventional proportions are embraced as a styling flex, the once-divisive silhouette now reads as directional rather than dated.
Hadid, an early adopter of the capri revival, has offered a modern blueprint for making the shape feel current: streamlined styling. The model often pairs her capris with monochromatic ensembles and sleek heels to elongate the leg, letting the cropped proportions feel deliberate and pointed. Ratajkowski has taken a similarly minimal approach, styling her capri pants with sleek oversize blazers and tailored separates for a polished look.

Designers echoed the same message on the spring 2026 runways. At Ralph Lauren and Proenza Schouler, capris were styled with clean lines, restrained palettes and sharp tailoring. Offering an alternative take, Sandy Liang’s pedal pushers took a more playful turn in floral and lace interpretations, signaling the silhouette’s range — from polished minimalism to ironic femininity.
The original capri pants trace back to the 1950s, when Audrey Hepburn helped popularize the style. Though the understated elegance of that era still shines through, brands are giving the pants minor design updates to feel more modern.
Dacey Trotta, founder of Rumored, says the brand’s capri styles have been refined for 2026 through subtle but important shifts. “A higher rise, a clean waistband, and compressive fabric instantly modernize the shape,” Trotta said. “Capris of the past often felt lower-rise, thinner and more casual in fabrication. The shift now is toward precision, where the fit is intentional, the fabric supports the body, and the overall finish feels elevated.”
That emphasis on fabrication reflects a broader consumer mood. “Today, it’s really about having options beyond denim that still feel comfortable and put together,” Trotta added. “Capris offer that middle ground. They feel intentional without being restrictive, and polished without trying too hard.”
As summer 2026 trends emerge, the capri pant is proving itself a top contender for this season’s most coveted pieces. But this time, the silhouette is less about nostalgia and more about a changing idea of proportion. What once looked awkward now looks considered — and that may be the strongest sign yet that the silhouette is back.

Trotta says of the brand’s popular capri pants, “We used a compressive stretch scuba ponte that smooths and holds its shape, so it feels structured and polished while still being comfortable enough to wear all day. It’s rooted in vintage inspiration, but executed in a way that feels clean, considered, and relevant now.”
