For the latest installment, she reviews Set Active apparel while working out at Fuze House.
Set Active makes some of the most functional and elevated matching workout sets on the market, as touted by pretty much anyone interested in Fitness apparel on TikTok. The sleek and simple “SET” logo branding across all of its apparel is instantly recognizable, whether flashed across the chest or at the ankle on the ultra-flattering leggings. What’s not as obvious, however, is the fabric behind any given look and its impressive technical properties. The company offers FormCloud, which is described as buttery-soft; Sculptflex, which offers high compression with ribbing; Sportbody, which is particularly cooling; and Airluxe – optimal for Pilates, weightless, and breathable.
When I had the chance to attend a Fuze House workout led by former “Love Is Blind” cast member and Pilates Body founder Raven Ross, I knew Set Active’s Airluxe line would be perfect for test driving. Fuze House is an infrared-heated boutique studio specializing in mat Pilates and sculpt workouts that are low impact, but high intensity because of the 90+-degree temperature. The intention is to bring clients a spa-like experience that leaves them feeling detoxified and rejuvenated when they exit. Even the California coastal-like vibe of the studio speaks to that sentiment. But while the atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, the slow and controlled movements utilizing Bala wrist and ankle weights and Pilates rings ignite a burn at the core – and that leads to a pretty significant 50-minute sweat sesh.
In an effort to find out whether Set Active’s Airluxe line would stay true to its claims of feeling weightless and breathable in a steamy workout class, I selected the Breathe Scoop Bra ($54) and Breathe Mid-Rise Leggings ($74) in Spades (navy blue) for my workout. What I Like About the Set Active Airluxe Apparel
From an aesthetic POV, I have to say I’m obsessed with the silhouette of the Breathe Scoop Bra. It’s sophisticated and sporty, and the simplicity of the “SET” logo across the brand’s entire apparel category is just so recognizably sleek to me. Since working these exact co-ords into my rotation in both Spades and Onyx, I find that I’m constantly reaching for them when I’m going to be working out in a public setting (aka a boutique fitness studio). I particularly love that this set isn’t flashy, but understated. While the design of the bra is so distinctive, what sets these leggings apart from the others in my workout drawer is the compression. These are stretchy but tight and smoothing, and the mid-rise fit hits me at the perfect point on my waist so that I’m comfortable enough to move freely without feeling restricted.
I was delightfully surprised by how dry these separates stayed during my workout. Since I was in a heated atmosphere, I felt like my body was drenched in sweat, but after I exited the studio, I noticed that there were still dry surface areas on both my bra and leggings. Typically, I find that my workout set is soaked through after a heated experience, but the Airluxe fabric holds true to its claims. What’s more, I do suffer from Raynaud’s disease, particularly during the colder months, so I usually have to remove my wet clothes to avoid the dreaded symptoms immediately after a workout. But I spent at least a full hour in this set on the commute home (on a 40-degree day) and didn’t experience any issues with blood flow. In other words, the Airluxe fabric dries quickly.
What to Consider Before Buying the Set Active Airluxe Apparel
Two notable details about the Breathe Mid-Rise Leggings are that they don’t come in varying lengths and they aren’t made with pockets. Typically, I do look for bottoms with pockets if I’m going to be running in them (I need a place to store my keys and phone!), but this set is exclusively for yoga and Pilates in my opinion, so it doesn’t bother me. I’m also petite at 5’1″, and I found that the 22-inch inseam works fine for me with no excess material pooling at the ankles. If you prefer high-impact sports bras with a racerback to support bounce, the Breathe Scoop Bra probably isn’t for you, but it’s absolutely tight enough to hold everything in during any sort of strength training.
