I haven’t started this season of “The White Lotus” yet, but I’ve been hearing about it nonstop. Most recently, I learned in a press release that makeup artist and makeup department head Rebecca Hickey swears by the Make Beauty Lash Prototype Mascara ($26). “The Make Beauty Lash Prototype mascara was used on every single woman this season of White Lotus,” she says. “It adds so much volume but never smudges, which would have been a disaster with the scorching temps of Thailand.”

A mascara that stayed in place during hours of filming through sweaty temperatures? Um, where do I sign up? When I got my hands on it, I knew I wanted to see if the claims were true, so I decided to wear it to one of the hardest workout classes I’ve ever tried in Los Angeles: Burn.

The class I take is located in Brentwood, and it’s a mix of pilates and HIIT, stationed inside an infrared heated fitness studio. The workout is already hard enough but in a heated room? Yeah, it’s bananas. The first time I ever went, I was sore for an entire week afterward, and during the class, I was literally dripping sweat.

Would the mascara stay in place while I put myself through 45 minutes of torture or would I find myself with rivulets of black dripping down my face? Keep scrolling to find out.

About the Make Beauty Lash Prototype Mascara

  • This is a volumizing mascara that promises to define and lengthen eyelashes.
  • The formula is buildable.
  • The key ingredients include tilia tomentosa bud extract to condition lashes, as well as carnauba wax, a vegan beeswax alternative.
  • It comes in one color, dark black.

What I Like About the Make Beauty Lash Prototype Mascara

I never wear makeup when I work out unless it’s for a story, so I skipped everything besides moisturizer and this mascara when I was getting ready. I also typically curl my eyelashes, but I decided to skip that step as well, and I only swiped on one coat.
I knew what I was getting myself into when I signed up for another Saturday Burn class, but once I get into class, I’m always surprised by how freaking hot it is (and how hard it is). The class involves using tiny one-pound weights, but I swear to you, after five minutes, my entire body is burning.
This time around, I was stationed right next to a mirror so I could occasionally check and see how my eye makeup was holding up throughout the class, and I was shocked to see that even though I was quite literally dripping beads of sweat onto my mat, my mascara wasn’t going anywhere.
At the end of class, I was bright red and literally damp to the touch, but my mascara stayed in place. I even rinsed my face off with water in the sink three or four times, and even though the area under my waterline got a tiny bit smudged, for the most part, everything stayed intact.
The best part? It isn’t waterproof, so it wasn’t hard to get off once I got home and used a little eye makeup remover and gentle face wash.

How to Use the Make Beauty Lash Prototype Mascara

The brand recommends starting at the base of your lashes and then swiping the brush from the root to the tip in a wiggling motion. You can layer on as many coats as necessary until you get your desired look.

I just applied one coat since I knew I was going to take it off after my class, but typically, I like to do a second coat on the outer lashes to give myself a faux cat-eye look.

What to Consider Before Trying the Make Beauty Lash Prototype Mascara

If you have straight lashes like I do, you’re going to want to curl them prior to applying this mascara. I didn’t because I was tired AF and didn’t feel like adding another step to my morning routine, but this mascara didn’t give my lashes much of a curl boost.

While it is great for lengthening and, of course, staying in place, if you’re looking for more than that, you’ll want to grab your eyelash curler prior to applying.

Where the Make Beauty Lash Prototype Mascara Is Available
