I’m going through yet another breakup (I know, my track record is dismal), so if there’s ever a time when I needed my makeup to not let me down, it’s now. I’m back on dating apps and the wild search for the ever-elusive love of my life (seriously, if you’re reading this, reveal yourself!), so I need my makeup to look good at all hours of the day, especially when I’m out on dates. I’ve found a few products that are completely date-proof, but I’m always searching for more to add to my collection.
I recently interviewed CoverGirl ambassador Kelsea Ballerini, and after hearing her gush about the products she loves from the brand, I decided to take a few of them for a spin. The one I fell in love with that surprised me the most was the CoverGirl Lash Blast Cleantopia Ultramarine Mascara ($14). It’s one of the best mascaras I’ve tested all year, but I wasn’t fully sold until I swiped it on my lashes and saw the results.

What I Like About the CoverGirl Lash Blast Cleantopia Ultramarine Mascara
One of my biggest beauty red flags is that I don’t always do a great job at reading about products before I test them out. So I was pretty confused the first time I opened this tube of mascara and saw it was blue. I actually ended up running back to my trash can, finding the packaging, and then reading about the product, only to learn that although it looked blue, it would end up being black. I was a bit confused and, truthfully, concerned, as I usually only wear the blackest mascara I can find on my already-dark lashes. However, I ended up loving the final result.
The CoverGirl Lash Blast Cleantopia Ultramarine Mascara separated, lengthened, and added volume to my lashes with just a few swipes, and the tint of blue, while barely noticeable, actually looked great. It also didn’t clump or cause fallout throughout the night, which is one of my biggest mascara pet peeves.
How to Use the CoverGirl Lash Blast Cleantopia Ultramarine Mascara
The brand recommends holding the wand horizontally, then applying the product moving upward, starting from the base of your lashes until you reach the tips. It also suggests applying additional coats until you’ve reached your desired thickness.
I typically start out by curling my lashes, then I go in with mascara. I position the brush at the base of my eyelid and use a zigzag motion moving upward. I only need two coats to get the bold results I’m looking for, then I’m ready to head out the door.
What to Consider Before Trying the CoverGirl Lash Blast Cleantopia Ultramarine Mascara
The only thing to consider before testing out this product is the one thing I didn’t: it’s blue. It won’t make your lashes look blue, but there is a subtle hint of the hue, so your eyelashes won’t look as dark as if you were wearing jet-black mascara. I love the effect it has, but it’s something to note if you’re looking for a darker look.
