A couple defining character traits about me: I love a good dramatic TV series, I live for long scenic train rides, I’ve never met a chocolate cake I didn’t like, and I’m a hot sleeper. I’ve been known to fall asleep and wake up sweating profusely in the middle of the night. That person who falls asleep under the comforter but inevitably peels everything off as they toss and turn, waking up to find their bedding on the floor? That’s me. So, when I heard about the Glacier Apex Hybrid Euro Pillowtop Mattress ($1,399, originally $2,798), I was eager to try it right away.
The mattress promises enhanced cooling thanks to copper foam and cooling fibers, which draw heat away from the body. And while that sounds nice and all, I was curious if the cooling technology would hold up as the weather heats up outside. Also, in my experience with cooling mattresses, I always got some degree of temperature regulation but I’d have to sacrifice comfort – or vice versa. The Glacier Pillowtop Mattress claims to deliver both, with pressure-relieving memory foam, plushness, and back support to go alongside its cooling system.
I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised with the results, especially going into the warm-weather season. Keep reading for my full review of the Glacier Apex Hybrid Mattress.
What I Love About the Glacier Apex Hybrid Mattress
First things first, the cooling technology actually worked to keep me from sweating through my sheets. It’s made with breathable materials – like the gTECH® Elite Cooling Cover – that regulate your temperature throughout the night. Imagine my surprise when I didn’t wake up in the wee hours with the urgent need to turn on my AC, open my window a crack, or throw all my bedding on the floor.
I also was pleasantly surprised to learn that the mattress features CopperELEMENT Foam™ as opposed to traditional memory foam, the latter being a hot sleeper’s worst nightmare. Memory foam traps heat, but the copper in CopperELEMENT Foam™ allows for a better cooling performance by regulating your temperature and ensuring heat is dispersed. As your body heats up, it works even harder to increase airflow and keep you cool.
The comfort level is also impressive – I suffer from back pain (blame it on sitting at my computer all day) and I’m happy to report the pressure-relieving memory foam helped alleviate pain by contouring to my body while I slept.

What’s Worth Noting About the Glacier Apex Hybrid Mattress
If you’re not a hot sleeper, and thus not in dire need of enhanced cooling performance, I’d opt for the Glacier Original Hybrid ($499, originally $998) instead. Yes, the original provides a decent degree of airflow and boasts breathable materials, but the Apex Hybrid takes the cooling technology up a notch. Sleepers who don’t run hot may find the fabric on the Apex Hybrid too cool to the touch.
Also, while the Apex Hybrid does provide great back support, it delivers a soft, cushioned feel. I personally love a plush foam mattress, but shoppers who prefer something firmer should explore other options.
Who Is the Glacier Apex Hybrid Mattress Best For?
Hot sleepers, this mattress is for us. From its gTECH® Elite Cooling Cover to its CopperELEMENT Foam™, it excels at temperature regulation in a way I’ve never experienced before. The airflow and breathable materials really make all the difference in providing cool, restful sleep. And the added comfort and support is a welcome bonus.
