IWC Schaffhausen is celebrating the Lunar New Year with a unique offering.

The Swiss luxury watchmaker on Monday revealed the release of a limited-edition watch that marks the Year of the Dragon: The Portugieser Chronograph Year of the Dragon.

The watch is designed with a 41mm stainless steel case and a burgundy-hued dial with gold-plated hands. The brand stated the burgundy color is meant to symbolize fire, which is typically used in celebrating the Lunar New Year. The standout detail on the watch is its rotor, which is designed in the image of a dragon. The watch comes with two straps: a black calfskin option and a burgundy rubber style that the wearer can switch out.

“Since 1998, the Portugieser Chronograph has embodied the dynamic, sporty side of IWC Schaffhausen’s acclaimed Portugieser collection,” said Peter Lao, the managing director of IWC Schaffhausen China. “Thanks to the dial layout with the vertically arranged counters and the quarter-seconds precision scale, it has become one of our most coveted designs. We are convinced it is a fitting model to welcome the Year of the Dragon.”

IWC Schaffhausen is the latest brand to release offerings celebrating the Year of the Dragon. Other watch and jewelry brands, such as Piaget, Tag Heuer, Swatch and others, have also debuted limited-edition styles.

The limited-edition watch is IWC’s latest major release. Last year, the watchmaker released a collaboration with Warner Bros.’ “Aquaman” franchise, partnered with F1 racer Lewis Hamilton on a limited-edition style and released two new performance chronographs.
