King Charles III joined his eldest son Prince William at the Army Aviation Centre in Stockbridge, Hampshire for a significant military ceremony on Monday. The monarch officially handed over his role as colonel-in-chief of the Army air corps, a role King Charles held for more than 30 years, to the Prince of Wales.

For the official ceremony, King Charles and Prince William fashioned complementary looks. Both in business attire, the monarch wore a light gray suit with a checkered button-down shirt, along with a colorful pocket square. He also wore a tie in shades of navy blue, red and white, which bore a striking resemblance to the tie William wore.

The Prince of Wales opted for a suit in a shade of navy blue for his attire during the official ceremony. There, King Charles and Prince William shared a few jokes, and King Charles made remarks regarding the significance of Prince William’s new appointment.

This event is among the first King Charles III has attended following the public disclosure of his cancer diagnosis last February. The head of the British royal family recently held the first Buckingham Palace Garden Party on May 8. The king was joined by his wife, Queen Camilla, who fashioned a black-and-white look that included a Fiona Clare dress and Philip Treacy hat.

The ceremony also comes after Prince Harry’s visit to the United Kingdom to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games Foundation. Senior members of the British royal family did not attend the panel discussion the Duke of Sussex held on May 7 or the service at St. Paul’s Cathedral on May 8.
