A Valentino girl down to her heels, Lili Reinhart was spotted in New York yesterday in a colorful ensemble and grungy shoes, all from the designer brand.

The “Riverdale” star’s footwear of choice? Valentino’s Garavani Rockstud 100MM Kidskin pumps. The shoe choice is one with a lengthy history and has gone through major changes since it was introduced back in 2010. Reinhart’s chosen silhouette featured black leather uppers that transitioned into pointed toes finished with high-shine gold accents.

This Rockstud design featured a sandal-like construction similar to a cage with thin interlocking straps that traveled the length of Reinhart’s feet. The shoe’s name derives from the studded accents seen throughout, dotting the straps for a punk-rock finish. Transitioning from the pointy gold accents, the designer shoe was also equipped with bright red insoles for contrast and 4-inch stiletto heels.

Every time Reinhart took a step, those red insoles would peek through. Valentino’s Rockstud style is beloved by many, including celebrities from Keke Palmer to Emily Blunt and Natasha Lyonne. The shoes came from the minds of Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli, co-creative directors for the brand in the 2010s.

The caged design was in direct response to the popularity of gladiator styles, while the studs were a signature touch meant to mimic Roman architecture. The raised pyramid shape of the studs comes from “bugnato,” which is a traditional rusticated stonework technique found on the facades of historic Renaissance palazzi and buildings across Rome, Valentino’s home city.

“I didn’t want to do this the day after I arrived here, because I found it weird and I didn’t know this territory so well,” Michele said in an interview with WWD in reference to the Rockstud’s construction. “My idea of what’s Valentino, what I do, and what I can also keep from what’s been done by my predecessors. So I looked at this theme, which is so interesting and represented a pillar for many years, a great invention.” The shoe waned in popularity around 2020, but has since made a resurgance, rediscovered by footwear lovers everywhere.

Paired with her spiky footwear, the “Forbidden Fruits” actress donned a pistachio green and lavender look, also from Valentino. The ensemble consisted of a turtleneck bodysuit with black lace accents, paired with a black lace mini skirt with pistachio green accents. Additionally, Reinhart wore sheer black tights and a black quilted bag beneath her arm fixed with a chain strap.
