MILAN — Dave Nielsen, who led the transformation of Beyond Inc. and its flagship brands, Overstock and Bed Bath & Beyond, has been appointed to spearhead design platform Lumens, amid its parent company’s ongoing organization reshuffle.

Nielsen is an e-commerce veteran who was most recently president of Bed Bath & Beyond and took over for interim chief executive officer Cristina Miller, who held the role since March 2025. Lumens is controlled by Italian luxury design group Flos B&B Italia, which is in the throes of its own corporate shift.

In June 2025, its executive chairman Piero Gandini said the group was open to offers for its galaxy of brands that also includes heritage furnishing firms B&B Italia, Maxalto, Arclinea, Azucena, Audo Copenhagen and lighting firms Flos and Louis Poulsen.

Before doing so, “What I’ve agreed with the investors is that as we stabilize each business, they can sell them according to their model. We’ll do this company by company, based on readiness and quality,” Gandini said at the time.

Lumens, which is based in San Francisco, runs its business on a marketplace model, where more than 400 high-end home design brands are sold.

In a statement, Gandini applauded Nielsen’s e-commerce marketplace business and expressed confidence in his potential to propel the company into a new phase.

“Dave’s extensive background in e-commerce marketplace businesses makes him an exceptional fit as our CEO of Lumens, especially as we enter our next phase of scaling our business to become the preferred sourcing destination for design professionals and design aficionados,” said Gandini, highlighting “strong momentum” at Lumens.

Since Gandini was appointed to his current role in 2025, after veteran luxury executive Daniel Lalonde stepped down, the company has gone through a string of top executive changes. Lighting company Flos also saw its CEO Roberta Silva depart in 2024. Kitchens brand Arclinea saw family member Gianni Fortuna step down from his CEO role. In December, B&B Italia CEO Demetrio Apolloni announced his departure on LinkedIn due to personal reasons, citing the need to dedicate himself to his family. B&B Italia has yet to name his successor.

In 2023, Overstock, which saw its own sales slump in 2022, won a bid for key Bed Bath & Beyond assets and closed the sale for a mere $21.5 million. Bed Bath & Beyond Inc. filed for Chapter 11 protection in 2022 enabling it to wind down operations and sell off its assets following its failure to turn its business around. Nielsen was named president of Beyond Inc. in 2023, after serving as Overstock’s president since 2018.
