Margaret Qualley drew inspiration from the runway for her look at the Newport Beach Film Festival on Sunday in Newport Beach, Calif. “The Substance” actress was honored with the Spotlight Award at the annual film festival.
For the occasion, Qualley chose a knitted look from Chanel’s cruise 2025 collection. The ensemble, featuring a bold yellow hue, made the actress pop on the red carpet. The look included an ornately designed sweater with a rounded, ruffled neckline and buttons down the front placket.
Qualley coordinated the sweater with matching yellow knit short-shorts. She paired the yellow look with sheer black tights and black patent leather mary janes. Qualley opted for minimal jewelry, save for a sparkling silver brooch and a few rings.

The actress’ look made its runway debut during Paris Fashion Week in May. “White cotton and lace dresses looked like upscale versions of the antique nightgowns you can still find at local flea markets, but other looks had a more androgynous bent, with items like tweed board shorts, black surf shoes and terrycloth tunics with kangaroo pockets,” WWD’s Joelle Diderich reported of the collection.
Chanel’s creative director Virginie Viard “was drawn to the idea of a seaside town with a dose of grit,” Diderich continued in her review. Viard left Chanel as creative director in June 2024.
Qualley has a long-standing and strong relationship with the French luxury fashion house. The actress previously walked the runway for Chanel during the spring couture collection showcase in January and is an established brand ambassador. Throughout her promotional tour for “The Substance,” Qualley has worn several looks by the French luxury fashion house.
For the film’s Los Angeles premiere in September, Qualley wore a selection from Chanel’s haute couture summer 2024 collection. The dress featured subtle sequined bows, which outline the drop-waist train of the gown, complementing the ornately beaded, tiered dress. The look married lace and tulle in pearly white and pink shades.
